Any tips for taming a parakeet?

Answers:
DON'T JUST PUT YOUR HAND IN THE CAGE. This doesn't do anything, and sometimes makes taming harder because the bird doesn't think that you're nice, they think that you just invade their space for a few minutes each day. The REAL way to tame a bird is to get them to trust you. Feed him treats through the cage bars, and once he eats the treats from your fingers easily, put your hand in the cage and feed him the treats. Once he easily does that, put one finger above his feet and hold the treat far away so that he has to jump on your finger to get the treat. After a few days, he'll just jump on your finger because he wants his treat, and you have a tamed bird. Also check out http://www.cockatootrainer.com/timidness...
Every day. take the bird gently in your hand and just stroke his head, look him over, and put him back after a minute or two.
By the end of the month you'll be able to start getting him to step onto your finger.
It's all in spending time %26 developing trust.
10 tip for parakeet.
well i usually tie a string to it foot n then let him stand in my finger. idk if it will work on u but it works for me.
Get the bird used to having your hand in the cage with him, first. He may flutter and squawk, but if you put your hand in slowly and just leave it there, he will learn you aren't going to hurt him. Do this for short periods of time, moving your hand closer and closer to the bird as he tolerates it. When the hand is no longer a threat to him, use a finger to gently stroke his breast, eventually using pressure above his legs to get him to step onto your finger. This is the first step toward taming him. Eventually you will be able to take him out of the cage on your finger and ride him around on your shoulder. Add more handling slowly as you gain his trust. There are books out there on training any animal or bird, too, which will give you more tips. Oh, and bribes are good, any kind of food that is a special treat beyond the normal birdseed.
