Can someone identify this type of crow to me ?..?

I was taking the bus the home. when i arrive near my house i saw two crows thats triple the size of a normal crow, one of them was on a top of a garbage or recycling box.eating bread crums , the other one was too but it was on the ground..I kind of got this scary feeling about them...so i just walk on the next street around it..? do you know what they were?
Answers:
Some of the other poster are correct. You probably saw a mated pair of ravens. Ravens are related to crows, look similar, but are much larger. They are found all over CA.
They only thing scary about a raven is it's appearance. You have no reason to fear. They have more to fear from humans and will always avoid direct contact.
Here's more info on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/common_rave...
lots of crows can get to be really big just normally they dont get to close to us so we cant see how big they really are
Rather hard to say unless I know what country you are in...in the UK some crows are just massive.
crows are big birds. i wonder if it was some type of vulture u saw though.
Most likely they're ravens. They look like crows but are larger. Ravens also have a different call and slightly different shaped wings.
http://www.birds.cornell.edu/allaboutbir...
That my dear would be a raven. They are much larger than a crow. Some people think they are the same thing but they're not.
well first look it up on the internet, but what it sounds like to me is a vulture they do look like that.
There are Crows %26 Ravens they look the same other than the Raven is a larger bird. Have a good one;~)
ally in your family some one i am not say Inga close one but some one you seen but not seen crow is good luck to you and family because it hap pends rarely they are watching over you do not scare just be happy then you see them whenever you want see them
maybe what you saw was a small turkey buzzard, theyre kinda pudgy type birds and all black.they eat road kill.
The only crow you would see in California is the American Crow. More likely you are seeing Common Ravens if they appeared large to you. They are both pretty common bird species.

Can someone help! i started raising turkeys this year. they do well up to 6 wks and then start dying off.?

they are getting something from the ground, mainly when it rains. their pens are covered from the rain, but water stills runs thru pens. i am now putting down plenty of pine shavings to help with sanitary concerns. i just don't have any way to keep off the ground when they get over 8 wks old.
Answers:
Getting something from when it rains sounds like botulism or salmonella. They'll spend a day or more looking drunk and then die.
Until you actually remove the organism, the problem will keep popping up. Take all the animals out of the pens while you use some stall cleaner to clean up their area. A concrete floor will cut WAY down on the problem, and is easy to install. Just get some quick crete and pour it on the floor of the pens, then smooth it with a flat shovel. Nothing perfect, just something to separate your birds from the water coming in.
With or without the quick crete floors, you can put down some wood ash (from a fire place or bonfire pit), or you can just buy the all natural wood coal (five bucks a bag) and crush it up. Pour this evenly over the floors, and it'll help neutralize the droppings which the organisms feed on.
Never use stall cleaner on a dirt floor. If you've just got a dirt floor and you can't put in concrete, then use a mix of one half cup bleach with a gallon of water and soak the area. This will cut down on bacteria build up.
It takes months to clear up a bad infection, and while you wait, you may want to get the terramycin poultry powder for your birds. Follow the directions closely. I personally use the terramycin livestock pills, as they are extra strength and can be cut up in a pill cutter for correct dosing (where as you can't accurately dose water where multiple birds will be drinking).
I don't raise turkeys, I raise ducks. But, ducks go through the exact same thing. We had a bout of salmonella early this spring, due to some heavy rains and dirt floors (we've been putting in concrete floors over the summer).
i have lots of turkeys too! what we do it put grasses and weeds down. they like it and it keeps it cleaner for a while but then yu have to redo it! they make messes quite quikly. but it's the sacrifice of having birds! lol
Commercial poultry farms do 2 things to help chicks of any kind through this sort of situation.
1. They feed Medicated Chick Starter. This costs about $6 for a 25 pound bag, and really helps the young birds.
2. They fortify the chick's water with oxytetracycline antibiotic. This is sold in a powder which you mix at a ratio of 1 teaspoon to 1 gallon of water. It costs about $5 for a bag containing 50 teaspoons full. Common brands are Aureomycin and Terramycin. I prefer the Aureomycin, which has much less dust.
These 2 steps will help young poultry chicks to fight off many common illnesses that plague young birds.
By the way, these products are perfect for pet birds as well.
Find these products at a farm supply store.

Can someone explain to me how birds mate?

Because I don't understand it, birds don't have penis, no vagina but they make babies.
All they do is the male get on the back of the female.
Answers:
the male climbs on top of the female and she spreads her wings for balance and the male rubs his vent(his privates) against hers.
pater47***
that was too funny, god i laughed so hard!
are you 8?
there eggs
birds are not mammals so they do not need to have sex to have baby birds
Actually, they do.
They have to be careful though not to mate with a bird of questionable character or they could get Chirpes, which is a canarial disease and it appears to be untweetable.
They do actually have to mate (have sex) to have babies. They are not out there reproducing asexually... and actually birds DO have penis's and vagina's (there's a big study about duck penis's in one of the more recent biology periodicals) they are just not set up exactly the same way as in mammals which most people are more familiar with. But it's still basically the same thing, there needs to be contact and the female needs to have everything fertilized internally. Females can lay eggs without mating, but they will not be fertile. (kinda like how female humans make eggs every month but without a guy, not much is going to happen with them)
You dont know much about birds

Can somebody answer a question about cockatiels?

I have a baby cockatiel that was born 2 weeks ago and one of his legs is longer than the other he cannot stand on it. His legs go sideways like if he were doing the split. He has become very special to me and I would like to know from an expert if he's going to walk someday or stay like that and also would like to know if anybody has gone through the same thing as me. I luv my cockatiels alot and never have gone through something like this. I had to take him away from his mom so I could feed him and take care of him. Cause I was afraid that they would not take care of him the right way because of his condition. He looks very healthy and eats very well he's the cutest thing. Please can anybody give me advice I am going to appreciate it. Thankyou friends
Answers:
This sounds to me like a case of splay leg, it is caused by the bird having difficulty gripping the floor. Buy rubber shelf liner asap and it should cure itself. If not then you may have to tie his legs together, search splay leg on google to find out how.
I know what you mean about the cockatiels. They are such sweet birds. I used to own one myself.
As for your problem. I've never seen or heard of anything like that before. My best advise to you would be to call an avian vet (make sure that it's a vet who treats birds) Just going in for a consultation would cost next to nothing. They could at least diagnose so that you know what you're dealing with and possibly how to treat it. Don't worry they won't talk you into doing any procedures you cannot afford. Good Luck.
The first 6-8wks of a bird's life are very delicate. I would wait until 8wks before you make any firm decision about what to do with the bird, because as horrible as it may sound, it might not even live that long. Even perfectly healthy baby birds can die within this period of their life for seemingly no apparent reason. Baby birds start getting active at about 4-5wks old, so wait til then at the very least and see how he is. He will probably work out how to get around, even with his defective leg! He will just accept it as a part of life. I would assume that the most he will need is special platform (flat) perches.
Good luck with the little one!
My cousin had a cockatiel like this one and they called her peg leg(initially they thought it was a boy but she ended up a girl). She ended up being able to walk but they also adapted her cage to make it easier for her to balance.Just wait and see I guess. My cousin also had a very busy house so the bird was never alone.

Can roosters that grow up together stay in the same cage?

I was ordering some chicks and if they grew up from baby to adult will they get along? I have females will they fight for teritory or female or will it be ok if they grew up together
Answers:
Your question depends on a few things. First are you going to be keeping the roosters together( By together I mean will they be in the same cage for the time they are with you). If you are then there will not be any major fighting. Yes, the roosters will establish who is stronger and better but you will not have any roosters harmed. I kept thirteen roosters in one coop once and they all got along with each other, but they were with each other since they were chicks.
Now if you are planning to keep the roosters and separate them and then put them back together when they are older you are going to have some problems. If you separate them for any time period (sometimes even 1-2 days) your roosters will forget each other and start to fight.
If you do have fighting issues it doesn't necessarily mean that you have to have chicken dinner. The rooster will eventually work it out. Not many roosters will fight to death. So you will not have to worry about that unless you are purchasing breeds that are known to fight.
What you can do if your roosters start to fight is pick them up and put them into cages. (Not together they each must have their own cage, this is a time out for them) After an hour let them out again. If they still continue to fight repeat this. It may seem like hard work but one thing it does is work.
Now another thing you may want to consider is that some breeds are calmer then others. Thus there will be less fighting among them. These breeds include the Brahma, Silkie, and Cochin. These breeds do not include Jungle Fowl, Leghorns, and most bantams.
The ideal flock numbers are-
10-15 hens per bantam rooster and 6-8 hens per standard breed rooster.
Good luck
Roosters will fight.
You will have to separate, sell or eat the roosters.
YES, it is perfectly okay. They may have to fight a little to establish a hierarchy, but this is natural and its best to let them fight, as long as they dont severely injure each other. Just make sure you dont have too many roosters or they will overmate the hens...If you have more than one rooster, make sure there is about 10 hens for each one.
its fine but make sure you have enough hens..i have 4 roosters with my 50 hens and the do fight once in awhile but i have never seen blood..now my mama hen on the other hand will whip everyone that goes by her babies...but they should be fine..
If the roosters grow up together, they doubt that they will try and kill each other. The best thing to do would be to seperate your flock. But if you really want to keep just one flock, it is possible. Just make sure that the enclosed area you keep the hens and the roosters in is large enough so that the weaker rooster will be able to get away from the stronger one in case they do have a little tiff. If you really want to have peace within the flock, make sure that there are enough hens for every rooster and that the roosters can have an even number of hens so they don't fight over the 'extras'. I suggest about eight hens to every rooster. Have a couple of different bowls for each water and feed. Roosters don't really tolerate other roosters at their food and water sources. If you have three roosters, have three seperate water bowls and food bowls. Also make sure that the highest perches are the same height as well. When roosters sleep at night, the higher they are, it shows that they have more power and dominance. It's not a necessity, but if you want peaceful evenings, you might want to look into it.
Hope that I was of some help to you.

Can Parrots Even Do This?

Someone I know has a rainbow lorikeet.
She plays a game with it where she holds its beak, it yanks its head down playfully and she says, "Got your beak!" The lorikeet says it too.
My friend claims that a few times recently, just from watching her do what I wrote above, the lorikeet has run up to her mouth, gently bit her lips then yanks his head down and says, "Got your beak!"
Is that even possible? Do parrots mimic in that way? How does he associate a human mouth as being the 'beak'?
Answers:
Yes they can mimmic like that. I have a parrot that associated her feet with me cracking my fingers. Now everytime I crack my fingers she will put her beek by her toes and move them like she is cracking them and she will make the sound. We have a lot of fun doing this, but I only have so many fingers to crack at a time, and she can do it endlessly.
Birds are fascenating. Watch and she can probably teach it peek a boo.
yes they do.
All animals are different so it is quite hard to say. I would say that it is possible as some parrots are incredably intelligent and can even understand simple convosations sometimes
Parrots do mimic, and he could associate the mouth with the beak depending on if they eat together. He knows the food goes in that way, just as his food goes in to his beak. SO yes...he could associate the beak with the mouth.
Think of it this way. Birds are highly intelligent, there learning capabilities are like a young childs. You can teach your 2 year old association just the same and many birds go beyond a 2 year old ability in learning.
There must be some association. I tried to give Jack some watermelon (something new) and he wanted no part of it until I was holding him in one hand and putting some in my mouth with the other. He figured out it must be good and tried to get what I was putting in my mouth.
Yes many birds can can mimic what they hear and also learn word association too. When a game like that is played over and over the bird will repeat it as a form of play.
I have Parrots that have learned to ask questions when I am doing things around the house that I do everyday. They have learned that if I am cooking they will ask me me if I want a drink or if I want a bite. So they understand to match words with certain things.

parrots are very smart so I am not surprised one would do that
our tag will repeat things that are said in a phone coversation, so yes they can mimic almost anything
Yeah, parrots love to imitate what you do. My cockatoo, Kai, learned to use a napkin all by herself. She had watched us eating dinner, and realized that a napkin works really well to clean the banana off of her beak. She even holds the napkin with her foot to wipe her beak, it's just like a human!
Yes, it is absolutely possible. Parrots are exceptionally smart animals. I have 4 of them, each a different breed but all have their own personalities. Parrots mimic what you do, therefore I am almost positive that the lorikeet is mimicking what your friend is doing to them. My parrots do similar things like saying thank you when they give kisses to you, and saying "mmmmm" when they get yummy food. I think they are such adorable creatures.
Yes! Parrots are very smart and many can learn how to play games by mimicking what the owner does. Most birds you can play copy cat. First for a few weeks you ahve to do what the bird does. Using your arms as wings and your mouth as a beak. After awhile you can move and the bird will copy you. But that is really cute! Birds love to do what you do.
It's just training and time. My rose breasted Cockoo does lots of things. I hold it by it's feet and it hangs upside down and yells "I'm a bat!" and It'll hold my hand with it's beak and claws and hang upside down like that and say "I'm a purse, need some change?" It'll also call the nine year old's name, or yell my name when it wants food. ANd when I boil water I'll say wanna cook? and she says "PLEASE NOT ME!"
It's just training and practice. It's not actually THinking that
"mouth=beak" It's just tought to assotiate the two.

Is it a Tropical Lorikeet? Because Tropical Lorikeets ahve the talkin abilaties, but (the most common pet lorikeet) Austrilian Mini Lorikeet, can not.though they are a bit smarter, Have lesser talkin abilities.
Just wondering...hope I helped! :)
I am amazed daily by what a parrot can do? I've kept small aprrots for 20 years and they never cease to amaze me.
I have a conure that opens it cage, gets out, shuts and locks the door and then goes on top of the cage to look out he window. It reverses the process when it's hunger and wants to go back home.
Another whispers in my ear when it on my shoulder. She also "helps" me make salads. Flys to counter and will take a little bit of each ingredient and place into a pile before see eats it.
My friends african gray, turns on the water in the sink to drink and bathe. It always checks the temperature of the water very carefully.
They mimic and they learn from observation.
Molly opens the "treat door" of the cupboard and will fetch me the sack of banana chips.
They are amazing.
Sure it is.. he is playing with her as she plays with him.. how cute.. He must love her and trust her...
they sure do

Can parrots eat dog treats?

seriously. I don't see why not. they are made of vegetables and vitamins. humans can eat them. what about parrots?
Answers:
Sure they can. Just make sure they are eatting it as a treat and not their main diet. The main things to limit are "junk food" both sweet and salty. Our birds eat most anything we do. My cockatoo's favorites include chicken, pasta and potatoes.
I've heard about parrots eating chicken... Wouldn't worry about dog food.
u should ask the place where u got the parrot from (just to be sure)
I bet it could alot of birds do but i would ask the person you got it from first...
i really dont know but i dont think so..they wo9uldn't be called dog treats if parrots could eat it.
Yes , they can.. The only thing you need to avoid with parrots is any dairy product.
i really dont think it is a good idea to give a parrot a dog treat .if they were allowed treats like that it would tell u in parrot books .or on a parrot website etc ...they may contain the wrong kind of vitimins that a parrot needs ...one thing they cant have is salt..there is plenty of other treats that a parrot can have

Can parakeets talk??

i have two parakeets and was wondering if they could talk like parots can!
Answers:
Yes they can, but to be successful you need a single male bird. Two parakeets together will chatter to each other.A single male, three/four months of age is ideal...
I have 2 parakeets too, and I was wondering the same thing. I tried teaching them, but no luck so far.
it depends on how good of a trainer it is so u should look up parakeet trainers
Parakeets can be taught to say simple things but it takes a lot of time and a lot of patience. My mom raised Parakeets aanf it could take her weeks to get one to say the first words. They will never have the Vocabulary like a Parrot but they can be taught to say some simple things.
Parakeets can indeed talk the way parrots can. However, when you have two of the, they are less likely to talk "human" talk than parakeet chatter, since they spend a lot more time with each other (and listening to each other) than to us. If you want parakeets to talk, you almost have to seperate them, and that's probably not something you want to do.
Yes they can
Yes they can. I used to have a parakeet named Polly and we taught her to say "I love you", "Pretty bird", "Gimme food!"
So yes they can talk, but you must be patient because he/she will not learn right away.
Yes they can be taught to talk. My grandma had a budgie and it would call everyone in the family out by their name. Some people have the bird's tongue split this aids in the talking.
Parakeets or Budgies? Yes, both species can and do talk.
I have had some great talking Budgies, but a friend has one that out talks mine and our greys!! His name say's it all;giggles. LOL
They don't talk as loud of course - -like the amazon I have is now wanting me to go to her; MOM! Mom come get me. Oh Sammy what and on %26 on.LOL
You do have to teach them to talk to get them started.
I had one, when I was little, that could say a few words (his name, pretty bird, and my name). I don't think they can have as extensive a vocabulary as parrots and they don't "speak" as clearly.
yes they can
they can but it takes a lot of repetitive practice.
We had two parakeets when I was young.
They were given to us by an uncle.
We started hearing," Dammit " in the middle of the night.
It took a while to find out where it was comiing from.
Nobody had ever tried to teach them to talk, apparently they just picked it up from my Uncle.
i heard on tv once that you can, but you have to work on it and start from the time they're babies
no itz impossible if it could of it would cost alot like larger parrots...

Can parakeets (budgies) , eat chillie?

i want to know if my budgie can eat chillie , i was wondering, would it be dangerous to give her some because shes so small mabey it would make her sick?
Answers:
birds love chillies (the vegetables). They are very good for them. all our birds are fed chillies daily. most of my birds are in aviaries and they will fly down to me to get their chilly.
you can use the love of this food to help train them.
I'm not sure, but maybe don't try that,,who knows what could happen?? I have two budgies, and I would not want to risk their lives over some chilly.
You could try giving them celery, carrots, broccoli, apple, strawberries..(mine love these).
**Hope they're happy either way.
i read in a magazine (bird talk) that birds cant feel the hotness of a pepper, and its good for them but i dont know if its including a parakeet..the picture on the magazine was a pretty big bird. Try to google it..
it depends on what chillie your talking about if it is the veggie then yes they can eat that but dreid you can get some at a pet store and only give a little.
if it is the chilly that you eat with corn bread or whatever then dodnt give her any it is bad for their liver and can kill them, just give her veggeis or friuts like apples are a forvite at my birds house and carrots and sweet corn and other veggeis and fruits. just dont give chocolate or avacados those will kill them if eaten.
I currently have 4 parakeets. They can learn to talk without chilies. Personally it might speed up the process but your bird will hate you and never trust you again. Don't do it. I'm trying to get my birds to eat fruits and veggies.
Feed your bird only only healthy avain diet foods.
Tell ya what, how about feeding her instead of a food that could harm her, a warm dish of vegetables.
You can use frozen mixed vegetables, defrost them in hot water, then drain them and let cool, then put some in her food dish.
Please read online what and what not to feed captive birds.

Can newly hatched baby budgies hear?

Answers:
I suspect they can though I dont know for sure. One because they cheep when in their eggs so that the time of hatching is better coordinated. They also respond to the sound of their parents arrival for feeding even though their eyes are closed until they are several days old. Sorry thats the best I can do.

Can my parakeets learn to talk? if so, how do you teach them to?

Answers:
Yes, but its best done with a single male bird. Two or more birds will generally talk to each other,ie "chatter".When you are ready to train your bird, speak clearly and slowly, repeating words. Slowness is important, as parakeets tend to speed up words when they repeat them. Speaking slowly will help make the words sound normal when you hear them. Be patient though, because training can take some time, even if you do it regularly and well. Try to speak with them early in the day while they are alert and their mind is fresh. While it is important to speak regularly, it is more important to speak for more than a few minutes; around half an hour a day if possible. The words you use can affect how quickly they will repeat them. Parakeets are best with words with hard syllables, such as k, w or t. Words that begin with p or b are also good to use in teaching the parakeet. A traditional phrase such as Hello isn't very good to train your parakeet with, since it is hard for them to say. Only when he repeats the first phrase should you move on to a second one.
Its best if you speak to your bird rather than use a recorder
as this can lead to the parakeet only speaking when you're not there. Some parakeets can learn words after two months. Others can take up to six months. After a bird learns a few words, it will take much less time to teach them each word.Time and patience is the key...
parakeets can never learn to talk...but they are the most athletic birds.
Yes, they can learn to talk. When I was little my Dad recorded himself saying a certain phrase and played the tape over and over to the bird until he learned to say it. You should start small with something like "hello". Just keep repeating the phrase over and over.
That's not true. I had a parakeet named Cody that talked. He only said, "Pretty bird" though. From what I've heard parakeets are definitely capable of talking but their voice is not going to be as clear as a larger parrot like an African grey or one of the Poicephalus parrots. They also will probably not learn as many words. Cody never made it past whistling and saying, "pretty bird".
I read in a book about parakeets (because I own one) that they can be taught how to talk... but I'm afraid I don't remember how you can teach them.
I suggest looking for a book about parakeets at a pet store or a library (or book store) and looking it up. (Or you can just look it up on the internet). That should answer your question.
I've always been wondering the same thing. But of course, it's not gonna be as easy as teaching a dog how to sit, you know?
Anyway, I hope I helped. ^_^
All bird are capable of learning to repeat certain words. Seriously though, keep it simple. Nothing like, "Sally picked seashells down at the seashore" okay? start with (as said) things like hello. I think it's even cuter, though, to teach them "bye" because when someone walks in the door, you'll say "hi!" and they'll say "bye!".. And then, once they learn words like that, move on to things like "how are you?" and "nice weather" and things.. You can also teach them to whistle.
As for how to teach them, simple!
The three-step-method,
1. Get a tape recorder
2. Record yourself saying the chosen phrase or word
3. Play the tape all day, when your at work, or when you're home
And the FOURTH step. (which I didn't mention)
Enjoy your loving, talking bird:)
short answer?
yes they can learn to talk.
You teach them by being VERY patient, VERY repetitive %26 persistent, and with time. How much time? Depends on how much you work with the birds.
Hope that helped! :)
when I was a kid we had a parakeet named "Big Bird" he learned to say "Hello" and "Big Bird" after months of saying "Hello,Big Bird" to him. He had a really high, squeaky voice. It was really cute. =)
yes, they can but they can only say a few words...u teach them by repeating the word over and over and over again clearly until they learn it.
parakeets are one of the best talkers!! A parakeet actually holds the record of having the most vocabrulary of any parrots according to the genius world record book beating an african grey!! who are prolific talkers! just keep saying the phrase. repetition is the key or use a recorder and play it all day. good luck!
yup they can. To teach... take about 15 minutes each day to work with him.. now say the word or phrase slowly to teach it to them...good luck
Parakeets can't talk they can only make noises. Parrots can talk. I have never heard of a parakeet talking.

Can my cockatiel play with gimp?

He will not choke or anything.
Answers:
It would probably be ok. Just monitor him to make sure he isn't actually swallowing it or getting wrapped up in it.
This was a question in onme of my forums for making bird toys with. As long as the bird isn't swallowing the pieces of gimp it should be fine. I would make it an out of cage and supervision type toy.

Can mated doves live with a baby lovebird?

Hello. I am interested in getting a lovebird. I have a small room that my already bought doves fly around, and are very peaceful. I want to keep a lovebird in the room as well (Cage is supplied for doves/lovebird to hide out), but I want to make sure one of the doves will not kill or attack the lovebird (Depending on whether the bird is male or female) for 'stealing' his or her mate. Can mated and slightly jealous doves (Attacked toy dove with real bird call) live with a peaceful lovebird? Can they eat the same food? (Wild bird seed)
Help much appreciated. I will love you forever.
Answers:
the lovebird will hurt your doves. doves are very peaceful but lovies are very territorial i have a lovebird(mango) who is sooooooo sweet my 3 year old dresses him up (he was superman for halloween) but when he was a bit younger, around 2-3 months he kicked my blue crowned conures(much bigger than him) but, he bit him and i had to break them up and my conure is very aggressive but couldnt defend himself. dont do it, trust me. been there, done that, regreted it!! their diets are different as well, look into it youll see. they can play outside together but not share a cage.
Lovebirds are territorial creatures. And while your doves are friendly, the lovebird might hurt your doves. A friend of mine made a mistake of popping in another bird in the lovebird's cage and the next day, they found the bird dead with lots of peck-marks. I strongly suggest you keep them separate. Hope this helps.

Can lovebirds, cockatiels and budgies live together?

I wouldnt want them to fight or kill each other but if I get a huge spacious cage for them. I want to get lovebirds and a cockatiel because I already have budgies. Just wondering if they can stand each other.
Answers:
ABSOLUTELY NO LOVEBIRDS! Lovebirds are the most aggressive and have been known to kill even macaws when housed together. I almost ended up with a dead conure this way! Cockatiels should be fine as long as you introduce the birds slowly. Either buy a separate cage to keep them separate at first, or put a barrier in the cage. Let me know if you have more questions!
Normally it's a bad idea to add any birds to an established group. Even if they're the same species. This is what I was told at the pet store when I wanted to buy an additional budgie.
I used to have a cockatiel and a budgie and kept them in the same cage they always got along great and soon became inseperable. I would put them in a room where they won't be bothered and watch them for a bit to make sure they get along before you put them in the cage, but that's just my opinion.
Lovebirds cannot live with those two other types of birds. Cocktiels and Budgies will be great on the other hand.
If you scratch lovebirds, than things will be mellow.
before putting them together, they must become more familiar with eachother. i suggest putting them is sepperate cages for atleast a month. also you should let them out at the same time
No, lovebirds are too aggressive. Sometimes cockatiels and parakeets can live together, but sometimes they will fight. Depends on the temperament of both. Be prepared to house them separately if they don't get along. A few months in cages next to each other to give them time to get to know each other would be recommended first.
I have 2 lovebirds, 6 cockatiels, 4 kakarikis and 112 budgies in a large aviary
I saw a budgie preen a lovebird the other week
I spend about 5 hours a day with them and I have never seen them fight
No! Good gracious no! Lovebirds are WAY more aggressive than cockatiels!

Can lovebirds eat parakeet food?

I was wondering?
Answers:
Lovebirds can eat parakeet food if that's what you consider, but parakeet food won't give your lovebirds enough nutrients and proteins. Obviosely, parakeet food is made specially for parakeets and food for lovebirds are specially made for lovebirds! The same rule goes onto cats and dogs. If a cat eats dog food in general, chances are, that cat won't get its daily vitamins because dog food doesn't contain Taurine, in which dogs can make their own. Cats NEED Taurine in their bodies, and there can be some vitamins that your lovebird might need if it eats parakeet food.
Obviously they can, but it wouldn't be good for them. Every bird has its own needs and different nutritional needs as well. You should feed the bird the food that is made for it.
Lovebird or Cocketeil food would be best, with some fruits and veggies on the side.
no but my beaver can and will
i have both kind of birds and i feed them the same thing. zupreem pellets for small hookbills, a seed mix for small hookbills as well as fruits and vegies.
well that is a very good question, i have three parakeets and one quaker parrot and one day i gave my quaker parrot a little bite of parakeet food because i ran out of parrot food, and he loved it, now i give my quaker parrot parakeet food as a sweet treat...i would say yes try giving your lovebird some parakeet food and if he enjoys eating it then you could give him more,it would not harm him if he eats it, because the substance of parakeet food is almost the same taste as other bird food but with a little twist in flavors.. did i answer your question Eric From Jesus...
No although they are about the same size as parakeets...their beak size as well as their nutritional needs are different. I would suggest either cockatiel or conure food.IMy friend has a lovebird. She feeds it. Lafeber cockatiel pellets,Fiesta lovebird/conure food, and fruits and veggies.
You will see that on the bag of Kaytee Exact Rainbow it will say the pellets are for keets AND lovebirds. Only buy it for keets. I dont know why some people put lovebirds ans parakeets in the same category.
Yes, they can. Mine (and even my larger parrots) enjoy parakeet food - it has more millet seed in it than the types they manufacture for lovebirds and cockatiels. They all seem to like millet seed and the spray millet too. I give my lovebirds, plumhead keets, moustache keets, and even my sun and blue crowned conures a food cup with parakeet seed, a cup for lovebird/cockatiel/conure seed, and a cup for appropriate sized pellets; in addition to their water cup(s) of course. I also feed all of my birds a mixture of cooked rice and mixed veggies.
Most seed mixes are based on millet and/or safflower seeds anyway so it won't be bad for the birds. When I was breeding birds I would get my seed mixes from a wholesaler who carried over 30 different types of seed and allowed his customers to choose their own mixes (a pound of this, 3 pounds of that, 5 pounds of the other, etc.), whatever their particular birds seemed to enjoy most. Because of all the different sized birds I have, I had three separate seed mixes that he kept on file for me; one for the smaller birds, a medium sized mix, and a large mix. Additionally, because I then lived in a cold climate, I would add a bit more of the high protein/fatty type seeds during the winter to help keep their metabolism higher; and then would change each mix when breeding season came around.
The point I am trying to make and the key to a healthy bird diet is a good mixture of everything, including lots of fresh veggies and/or fruits; as well as grains. My birds all absolutely ADORE plain and honeynut Cheerios and they are a wonderful weaning food for baby birds too.

Can I use powdered sugar for making my hummingbird nectar instead of granulated?

Answers:
Powdered sugar usually contains cornstarch. It would not add anything nutrionally to the mixture.
"When making hummingbird nectar, blend water and white table sugar in a 4 to 1 ratio (4 parts water to 1 part sugar). Add the sugar to boiling water. Bring the mixture to a boil again while stirring to dissolve the sugar, then let cool...
Don't use anything but white, granulated table sugar. No powdered or brown sugar, honey, molasses, red-food coloring, artificial sweeteners or nutrients should be used." http://www.cedar-works.com/newsite/feede...
yes just use 1/2 the amout of powdered and mix well
i dont see why not try to use that then wait maybe 3 days and see if they like it
i dont see what could happen?
Good Luck

Can i use dawn dish soap to wash my Cockatiels?

i have two teils, male and female, both love the water, but i want to know if dawn dish soap is safe to get them cleaner, my male is a bit...on the slow side, and wont groom unless my female grooms him.
btw there is nothing wrong with him, hes not dirty or anything i just want to know. the only thing wrong is hes slightly over weight
Answers:
just use water... the sprayer at the kitchen sink is ideal.
using soap is a bad idea.
i've listed an article below which might help. take care.
I'm almost positive you need to just use water. Anything else might effect the feathers.
No, just use plain water. No soap is needed. Birds clean themselves with their beaks and you wouldn't want them eating soap
Do NOT USE SOAP to wash birds. they clean (preen themselves) you can use just a water mister of allow them to splash about in the sink with about 1/2 inch of water.
Soaps like Dawn have emulsifiers and additives that can harm the feather and skin of the birds And burn the eyes.
I thought that all you needed was to let them bathe in some water. I've never heard of people using soap on them. Dawn or any dish soap will leave a residue, are toxic and harsh. Please call your vet for the appropriate cleansing methods. The most important thing you can do is clean their cages thoroughly.
Dawn dish soap is VERY effective for cleaning. I use it when bathing my two Cockateils. My vet advised me that it had wonderful ingredients in it that are unharmful to birds and I have since used it for 8 years.
For the overweightness, please get that in check. Birds have very small hearts and it can affect him greatly. Just watch his fat content and especially his snack levels.
I hope this helps!
i wouldnt, but my dad just squirts them with the water bottle and they seem to like it
No, don't use soap. if you want you can always add pure aloe into the water you use to mist them with, or to bathe them with. Soap is very drying to their skin and it's not needed. Just provide lots of water. Or buy a bath spray for birds at the petstore.
Unless you have a very dirty bird, they bathe themselves. The best cleaner that we have ever had to use is Simple Green. that is the safest and biodegradable. Dawn is best to use on birds that have been covered in an oil spill.

they dont need water. you can use a water bottle andd mist them once or twice a week, this causes them to want to preen themselves. about the overweight thing- you need to only feed them once in the morning and once in the evening with maybe a treat in the afternoon. birds eat the most at these times, so you should feed them and then take the food away until the evening. otherwise they will sit there and stuff their fat bellies all day (mine did this!)
No No No and again No ! You do not use soap of any kind to wash a bird just plan old water and if their skin is real flakey or dry just a drop of pure aloe vera gel in the spray bottle... You will ruin their feathers if you use anything but water... maybe you should take the food out of the cage for awhile during the day.. don't allow him to continually eat.. Take it away and give him some fresh fruit or veggies.. Good luck
all i ever bathe my meyers parrot with is plain water (and then i blow dry him because he loves it). hes a very clean little bird. dish soap could be very harmful.
i don't think it's a very good idea because there might be bad chemicals in it. in some pet stores there might be a bird cleaner thing that you just spray on them.

Can i teach my female parakeet to talk? and if she can talk, what the best and fastest way to teach her?

ok well i have a green parakeet named lola and she is a sweety and i love her and i play with for hours a day [ and like a couple hours after i got her I KNOW ITS BAD TO TAKE THEM OUT THE SAME DAY BUT I COULDNT HELP MYSELF SORRY and she jumped out on my finger the first try and came out, and ive loved her ever since. but know i want her to talk and every day i say her name "lola." and call me paranoyed, but after 10-15 times of saying lola she moves her beak up and down and no sound comes out but she moves her beak and my mom and my friend amber saw her do it to. so what is the best and fastest way to teach her to talk?
Answers:
You can teach her by repeating the same word(s) over and over again. Every single day when you pass the cage, use the word(s) in a sentence. Its very important you pronounce it clearly and say it in a cheerful voice so the bird thinks you're praising her. Male budgies (parakeets) learn to talk faster, but females are very very capable as well. You can also record your voice and put it next to her cage if you dont have time. Good Luck.
oh also, they are more prone to learn that sound with an ''R'' or a ''sh'' or hard vowels.
Give her a beak massage. My parakeet died of beak failure, because, guess why? No beak massage.
You can teach a female parakeet to talk.
The way i trained mine was saying something i wanted to teach her. Then reapeating it alot. Now when i get ready to walk out the door she says bye bye, She loves orange juice and when she wants it she says juicy juice.
Good luck with your new bird!
There alot of fun
You can teach your female parakeet to talk, but your parakeet must be active.Plus it is hard and takes a long time.
It's very rare that a female parakeet (budgie) will talk.

Can I still add oil to air popped popcorn if I'm feeding it to my tiel?

Can I use canola oil to make plain air poppepd popcorn for my cockatiel? Or what should I use instead? Will it burn if I don't use any oil? Thx
Answers:
Well, air popped might technically be more healthy for them. Too much oil can contribute to Fatty Liver Disease.
But a piece of oil popped corn as a rare treat should not be too hard on them as long as you don't go overboard.
Canola oil should be OK, or any good pure vegetable oil.
I agree with John. Air popped is best.

Can I put finches in an aviary with rosellas?

Answers:
No, you can not put finches in with any hookbills. They will be injured.
I would say no, unless you have a very big aviary. Rosellas are aggressive but don't know if they are with finches.

Can i put a galah in with roselas?

its is a young adult and cant fly, we found it in the paddock and until we can let it go, if the vet says there is nothing wrong with it can it go in with roselas
Answers:
If it's a large avairy you could (but I wouldn't), a cage or small avairy definately no.
It would be better to have the galah in your home until it's ready to leave. If it's unable to fly it may have problems getting to food %26 water dishes. It can have a fall %26 not be able to get back up.
There is also a problem of the rosellas being in the cage/avairy for a certain period %26 another bird indruding on their territory. The galah might get attacked.
Can you ask around, even the local vet for a temp cage for the galah until it's able to leave?
You should also consider the possibilities of disease the bird might bring in. Especially PBFD. It's huge amongst the wild cockies %26 lorikeets here in aus. If this bird has anyhting it may just be the start so the vet won't pick it up. You don't want to spread anything to your rosellas.
I wouldn't do it, but it's not my bird! Two different species don't belong together!
If you haven't have it vet checked and you found it where birds don't really belong then you really shouldn't expose anything else to it and would probably wash between handling it or any of its things and any of your other birds.
And I'm guessing you are in Australia? LOL In America Galahs simply don't fly into our paddock!LOL

Can i put 2 african greys in the same cage or will they fight?

my african grey is lonely i think so i was wondering if i get another one will they get along? i don't know the sexes.
Answers:
nooooooooooo. african greys are very finicky, they are such complicated birds that you may have trouble. let them get to know each other from a distance and even that may not work.
Larger birds cnanot be caged together, well they can but it comes at a price.
1) You will lose your bond with your grey if they do get along.
2) If they fight either could be seriously injured
3) you would ahve to buy a pretyt big cage to house TWO grey's together.
If your bird is lonely try spending more time with it. They are highly intelligent and sensitive so they need about at least 2 hours a day out of the cage interacting with their humans. That could really help. Try this before trying to buy another bird and jeopardizing your bond with your grey.
I wouldn't consider it even if it was 1female and 1 male because the males get kinda terratorial.
i have 2 african greys. the first one got lonely so eventually we bought a second one,but we didnt put it in the same cage with the first one. we have them across the room from each other in separate cages.maybe you could try that. hope this helps
i agree with shadow .

Can I mix a bit of apple juice with my budgies water, if a change the water every day?

Will it be good for him?
Answers:
Give him slices of fresh apple in a separate bowl instead. Make sure you pull uneaten fruit after a couple of hours so it doesn't grow bacteria or mold.
You should be changing their water every day regardless. Why put apple juice in their water dont you think it will give them the runs? Ive heard of vitamin drops in the water of reptiles, and birds but never apple juice..Whats your logic behind this? Give fresh fruits instead.
I think it should be OK
i dont think this is very wise, they are only used to water. it may give him the runs.
it should be ok as long has it not cider. you do not want a pissed budgie.
well the cornsyrup and sugar can hurt him .
i wouldnt chance it.
Our birds love juice. Think of it this way- Would you like to be restricted to drinking only water for the rest of your life??
If apples are OK for your bird, then the juice cannot hurt them.
There are a couple of things to consider, however.
Pure apple juice would be better for them than juice drinks with added sugar. Also its good not to go overboard with any food or drink, so I would save this for a treat item. Instead of putting it into their water bowl, we give juice to our birds from a special stainless steel coffee scoop that we bought for just this reason. It is the perfect size, and you can offer it to the birds while they sit on your finger or shoulder.
You also might want to consider pure grape juice.
Good luck.
It's not a good idea. they need fresh water. you can put apples in there but don't go mixing them!
I don't think the benefits would out weight the trouble. Plus you'd ahve to make sure it was all organic and where are you going find that these days? You should be changing the water everyday, whether you are putting stuff in it or not. Just give him apple cut into small slices. That's better then just the apple juice anyways.
Yes, it is good for them, but don't over do it as too much sugar can be harmful.
Well hold on you can do it. Just dont use stuff that you BUY. You can buy an apple [organic if possible] and make juice. Their is SO much sugar in apple juice that is bought. Dont even buy the stuff that says 100% apple juice. Make it yourself. And only about 1/2 a teaspoon per day.
Hope i helped!
maybe as well if a separate pot, there will be times when they just want water
No! apple juice is far to acidic and most contain preservative, as a long term breeder i would never give fruit juice of any kind to a seedeater, give him the fruit instead it will appreciate it more.
just don't leave it in all day.

Can I leave my parakeet's cage in a room with lots of windows?

I am a new parakeet owner. My mom says that we need to keep the cage somewhere without carpet. I found a great spot, but, it has 4 giant windows in there. Is it ok to leave the parakeet in there or will the sunlight all day bother it or possilbbly hurt my parakeet? I can close the windows so that there isn't as much light but I have read that birds need a little sunlight to help with vitamin D. Please help me with my cage confusion.
Myra107
Answers:
Parakeets are very hardy birds, but they are also fragile.
You should understand that they come from a desert climate, but it should also be noted that they can suffer from heatstroke heat exhaustion. What I do, when I put my birds outside , is a cover half the cage in shadows with a towel, which gives them some relief from the heat.
It should also be noted that if you leave the windows often, the keet will be exposed to drafts. A draft can easily be led to a cold, which they are very adept at concealing until they are dead.
If it is somewhere cold, such as a basement, they can also catch a fever there as well and will result in the keet's death.
Keets also need daily socialization. You should put the cage somewhere where people pass by daily and regularly, where it can listen in on conversations.
Also, note that it should not be kept in a kitchen, where fumes and gasses from cooking can also be lethal.
yes the more day light the better.. no direct sunlight
put some type of lock on the cage in case the windows get opened and someone opens the cage.
better safe than sorry
"Housing
Parakeets need room to exercise, so your cage should have room for your bird to flap
around inside. You will want at least two perches inside to keep your keet active.
Adding swings, more perches, hanging toys and mirrors will help your bird鈥檚 mental
health as well as physical health. Keets can be housed singly, in pairs or in groups.
鈥?Birds like room temperature (from 60-80 degrees farenheit).
鈥?It is very important to keep your cage out of drafts.
鈥?Also keep the cage out of direct sunlight so your bird doesn鈥檛 overheat.
鈥?Do NOT place your cage in the kitchen! Birds are very susceptible to toxic fumes.
The fumes from an overheated Teflon pan, iron, or skillet can kill a bird in minutes
鈥?Avoid housing your bird in utility areas as well: paint fumes, turpentine, hairspray,
perfume, nail polish and remover and even cigarette smoke can all be lethal for a
bird.
鈥?DO place your cage in an area where there is family activity. Give your bird a
couple of days to get acclimated before trying to handle it. Talk in a soothing
voice so your pet gets used to your presence. During the first few nights cover the
cage in the early evening."
http://nehumanesociety.org/trainingandpe...
yes just come check on them every 10 minutes and see how they are doing if not keep a blanket over there cage! I own 2 parakeets and sometimes close all the windows and doors turn off fans on the ceiling and let them fly around the house or room after a while they come back in. If u want them to go back to there cage grab a stick put by their feet and they might stand on it and say go home and lead them to the cage and they will go in the cage!

Can i keep 2 males and 1 female together happily?

finches
will the 2 males fight over the female? Or, should i just keep 3 males together
Answers:
Birds are never ok in odd numbers. Even when they're the same sex, there will always be the "odd man out" and will have problems. Either get 2 finches or 4.
Bad idea, the males will probably fight and they will get mean
i had to girl and 1 boy.. the turned out fine... they just really chirped alot.. but thats okay!
so i say yes go right ahead..i mean i live in a house with 4 girls and 1 boy
ye they'll fight for the female but if u have a fine cage its ok

Can i keep 2 male rats together?

me and my brother both want male rats
Answers:
Usually 2 male rats will be OK. There is always the chance that they may fight though.
If you add a female rat in the future I can guarantee that ther males will fight!!
That being said, why did you ask your question on the "Bird" board?? You would get more answers on the "Rodent" board!
yes you can, but they may fight.
if they start fighting, seperate them immediantly before one of them gets hurt.
good luck to your and your brother on the rats, they are great animals:)

~guinea_pig_lover
Rats as many other animals are "pack" animals. so that means they want a buddy. lol. If you havent bought the rats yet.. go to a pet store and pick two from the same habitat/cage (since they are now used to each other). if you do this. theres a minimal chance of them having trouble in the future.
Good luck with the rat thing. (they make great pets. a friend of mine has like 10 of them)
Absolutely, two male rats can reside together. However, unless they are brothers they will be a bit unnerved when first introduced. Not to mention you'll likely want to quarantine them (keep them separate for a few weeks and monitor to make sure they don't have any communicable diseases. It's a good precaution.)It may be a good idea to introduce both outside the cage first, perhaps after dabbing just a little vanilla extract on each to get them to focus less on the difference in ratty scent.
If they get on well and don't freak out at the introduction, you can probably put them in the same cage. Monitor them the first day or so on and off. A bit of tussling is normal as they try to establish dominance, but any serious biting means they should be separated immediately.
Chances are once they have that brief adjustment they'll get on well enough, if they've been well socialized around rats prior.
BTW, add-on: Don't add a female to the mix if you get unaltered male rats, unless you want babies. And for that, trust me, you don't. It's a lot of responsibility and you have to find them good homes. Just stick with the males.

Can I introduce a new budgie to my existing one?

I just really want him to have some company and plan on getting a 4 budgie cage so they will have lots of room. Will this work? Will they kill each other? How do I know what budgie will not kill my budgie if it depends on the budgie?
Answers:
Hi looking at you delightful photo of your Budgie I would say that it is a Female, there-fore I would get another Female for a friend unless of course you want to breed them then you would need a male, your bird is just coming into it's prime so introducing it to a new friend will be o.k,you need to get a younger bird and if it is possible to have a separate cage keep the new member in it for a couple of days, you say you let your present bird fly this will be an ideal situation because she can then introduce herself by landing on the cage you will then be able to judge their reaction to each other. On no circumstance release your bird into the wild(as one idiot says) First it will be mobbed by other birds and because of it's light colour will become prey for and predators, next it is Illegal to release any domesticated bird into the wild without a licence. If you do want to get rid of it take it to a pet shop or a local R.S.P.C.A shelter.Good luck
set him free and the new one , birds belong in the wild wild west of jungles they arent meant to be trapped in a cage. find out where they come from and leave them there .
He looks so sweet
Right i only intended on having 1 budgie but my father in law found another one i kept them in seperate cages for about 3 weeks mainly because 1. the other budgie was ill and needed to get his strength up 2. because i didnt know how my 1st budgie would react to him and most importantly 3. incase the new one had any diseases
Anyway when i let my 1st budgie out every day he always flew down to the cage to talk to him etc etc then when 2nd one was stronger i let them out (neutral ground) together and when i eventually put them in together they were absolutely fine and now love each other!
Your Budgie is a girl and should be fine if you got her a friend. Just make sure the cage is big enough for both of them. Introduce them slowly and carefully and keep a close eye for a while. Good Luck.
lol@ the tree hugging comment
I had a budgie and he was happy people assume when you own a bird you confine them makes me mad !!
Im a full time mum so i only got the one but i would say yes to a companion for her if youre working
To me you are a caring responsible pet owner !! good on you !!
love budgies !!
from the pics i think u have a female there m8, females have brown at the top of the beak, males have blue. so i would definitly not get another female. They will fight. Get a male, they will not breed due to lack of space between them. Sometimes on introducing they will fight anyway, but it will calm down. If i ever buy pets, i try to buy in pairs anyway for company.

Can i have 4 cockateils in one cage?

i rescued a male and female pair today, if i buy a big enough cage and introduced them gradually, would they live together with my male and female pair,or will there be fights?
Answers:
Why do people want to be lazy and get out of the real issue here? Don't take on added jobs or more birds if you can't take care of the responsibility of the main issue which are taking care of the birds itself!!
Unless you plan on night frights and a high vet bill, don't do it. You do not mention the size of the cage you plan on putting them into either. You can't rescue 2 birds and put them into a normal size cage that you already have 2 birds in.
It's like stuffing 4 people in a one bedroom apartment, it just don't work.
If you want to do it right, and "rescue" these birds, then do it the right way and get another cage for them. Yes that means you'll have two cages to clean, that's what rescue is all about. Twice the birds, twice the food, twice the cleaning, twice the play time, and twice as much fecal matter.
What is more important is that you quarentine this pair "AWAY'' from your other pair for at least 60 days or take them to the vets to have them checked for any diseases or you'll have 4 dead birds on your hands!
Good Luck!
birds of a feather flock together, they should get along, but if they don't, and keep constantly fighting, or bothering one another, you should seperate them
you may get a few problems between the two male birds. the females normally wouldn't be any problems. but the males maybe.
as long as there were no next boxes around etc. for them to fight over, they could get on well. i had 4 cockateils in one cage, 2 males 2 females, with no problems this way, but was told by alot of people that it can lead to problems. so i guess it just depends on the particular birds in question
Yes, you can put all four birds into one cage ... in fact, if you do, both pairs will be much happier. Just if you want to take them 'outdoors' take the male from one pair and the female from the other pair out, and never the 'mates' ... or take both males and both females ... and BE SURE their wings are clipped, so they can't 'fly off' ... but if they are 'mated' then they will be far less likely to 'want' to fly off, since Cockateils 'mate for life' and don't like to be 'totally separated' from their mates for more than a few hours at most.
There could be fights, but I'm not sure. since there are two females I don't know if the two males will fight. You might want to ask a pet store or breeder and see if that is ok. Now about the cage you want each bird to have enough room to expand their wings and flap. So if the four in there doesn't give them enough room to flap their wings and not hit another bird you will be fine.
I would think ,1st. is the cage lge. enough for 4 in it??They like to have times to play- Do you have lot's of things in the cage? I have 2 in one cage , but it's fairly lge ., and they have several food cups and millet seed, and water dishes- I try to think , how'd I feel if I was overcrowed? They may not fight , but then you won't know- I take an old card table and cover it w/ paper towel- Then I take a pie dish , and put lukewarm water in it , I place that on one corner- Then I take some birdseed and sprinkle it around and a drinking dish of water- Put apple peelings here and there , and they gather and have a great time , while eating and getting to know each other- As you watch , you'll see them , {if they like each other or not}I just was given a beautiful yellow one , but I'm slowly introducing it to the other's- I love my bird's so,so much , and they bring me lot's of joy-
First, you need to make sure the rescued birds are in good health. You may want to quarantine those 2 before you get them near your other birds. Cockatiels are generally social birds, but you may want to slowly introduce them to each other by putting the 2 new birds in a seperate cage and then put the cages close to each other. If they do good ( no biting at each other, squaking all day etc. ) then you should be able to put them together. Make sure there are more water and food dishes and have no nesting boxes in the cage.
For four cockatiels in one cage, it needs to be a HUGE cage. An aviary if you can. It needs to be big enough so that all four don't have to be anywhere near each other if they don't want. And there still will be bickering every now and then, that's normal.
It may be better just to have two cages for the two pairs. :)
But your choice.
Simple answer "No"you would require an aviary as both pairs would fight for supremacy of the cage they would fight even to the death.
yes
try it and watch, it should be OK in a new cage as long as it's big enough

Can i get my cockatiel an Avid chipped?

Is that possible? Its just a normal chip. And if so how much would it cost, estimated.
All reasonable answer are appreciated!
Answers:
yes you can, just take him to your normal avian vet and they should be able to do it for you. however i dont reccomend avid chips becuase early ones used to migrate within the body(they still might do that). At the hospital where i work we use HomeAgain chips.
the costs depends on where you go, however they average around 40-50 dollars
You should take him to a vet that specializes in birds. It's a pretty simple process, but I'd only trust a professional to do it. I'm not sure of the cost.
An avian vet might, but I am sure its much more than a dog or cat.
Technically you can, but as the vet tech said use a Home Again microchip. I work for a vet and I asked the Home Again representative this exact question. He told me that the problem with birds is that they dont have alot of skin to implant the chip in . After implantation its possible to still feel
the chip. And the chip is the size of a grain of rice which means a good size needle has to be used to insert it. That's fine for a dog or cat as they have so much extra skin, but can pose a problem for a tiny bird. And you dont want to have to sedate the bird to do it because that can pose an even bigger problem.I guess if the bird is a rare expensive bird , I might think of doing it. If you do decide to do it PLEASE find an avian vet who is experienced in implanting these chips in birds, not one who has only done cats and dogs. Good luck to you!

Can I feed my parakeets corn on the cob?

Answers:
i have 2 ring neck parakeets n an african grey the food we buy has corn in althou they chuck it out, u can also buy corn on the cob that is dry from pet shops so yeah i wud try them with it if they dunt like it then dunt bother like i say mine chucks it out of the cage constantly.
Yes, if you want them to choke and die.
yes , fedd mine corn all the time
Sure. Mine loved it. I'd feed it in smallish quantities. It's not the most healthful thing in high quantities.
Yes,just don't overdo it though...
yes you can it is a healthy treat for them.
absolutely, if they're into eating it. mine hated corn, but to each their own

Can I feed my parakeet crackers?

I'm trying to teach it to eat out of my hand. Are crackers good to start with, or is fruit better?
Answers:
Nope, cracker's have no heath value at all for us or for birds.
Birds need every bite of food to be healthy for their bodies and minds.
Try millet sprays, or put some of the seeds from in your hand and try that. Even their seeds, or yes, a small berrie or bit of apple or other fruit or a bite of washed raw celery or carrot or bell pepper, corn, green bean and such.
Fruit or millet. Millet will actually probably work better because the bird will acutally more likely recognize that better than any fruit or veggie. And if you give crackers, do it only in tid bits and make sure the crackers are unsalted.
parakeets are vegetaireins .NO!
My parakeets love millet and oats and groats and would eat, either of them out of my hand. They like people food, and it won't hurt them, if you are eating like, corn, corn bread, etc. All of my birds like popcorn, I know it isn't that good for them, but they all loved it. And would prance when they heard it popping. My cockateil loves popcorn also.
fruit or chopped nuts are better. crackers might swell up in thier stomachs, and it could hurt them if they eat to much of it.

Can i buy a pacicfic parrotlet in Australia?

I am looking for a good pet bird and these were the cutest i have found. If you cannot buy them in Australia what do you reccomend instead?
Answers:
Nope, parrotlets are not available in Australia, sorry to say.
If this is a first birds, I highly reccomend a cockatiel. Or you might also want to consider a budgie, green cheeked conure, lineolated parrot, or even a quaker.
It really depends what you are looking for in a parrot (playful? cuddly?) and what noise level you and the people in your house can tolerate. Overall, I certainly reccomend cockatiels. They are lovely birds.
i would recommend a cockatiel or a cockatoo
cockatiels are very cute and easy to look after,
cockatoos may need more care but are very good at mimicking a few words
Well not many of us live in Australia sad to say. Parrotlets are great. They eat sooo much. They arnt picky eaters either. That means they will eat fruits, veggies, and best of all pellets without protest. Or you live in australia dont you?? catch a budgie or cockatiel. Those two birds are native to Australia I beleive.

Can I bring my pet Finches when I come home to the U.S. from Germany?

Is it true that they have to keep them under observation for a month at a cost of 200 dollars per bird. Is there any other alternatives that are LEGAL?
Answers:
Check with US Customs, but all animals must be quarantined to prevent the spread of disease.
Considering that Europe has Bird Flu running rampant in many areas, it is a wise precaution.
They will have to stay in quarantine cause they may carry back some virus or sickness that needs to be kept in the borders. it is expensive too. My partner had a german shepard that came from germany to australia and she had to stay in quarantine for 6 months

Can fleas affect or infest birds or their cages?

i'm gonna bomb with flea stuff that worked 2 yrs. ago (i'll take the birds and their cages outside first) then use advantix on the dogs and cat
Answers:
Yes they can, the link below is from the Merick Vet Manual and considers flea problems associated with avian populations and recommends solutions.
Good Luck.
Dutch
P.S. I would scratch the bomb plans. It is never good to use them when you have pets at any time! The lingering residue can and will kill your pets no matter how long you air it out, as well as house plants and fish. Tackle the problem where it is and remember there really isn't a silver bullet to solve this. Just take it one step at a time till you rid yourself of them.
that is a yes only if you dont clean the cage for a while and dont bath the bird..
yes they can. But it's not likely to if you worry about keeping the cages clean, and make sure the birds bathe every now and then.
Be careful with the flea stuff. Birds are extremely sensitive to poison and things like that
Mites yes, flea's no.
Birds lungs aren't like our's so any tad of toxic substance will kill your birds. The toxins will still be in carpets and fabric furniture, drapes, etc.etc. so is very risky for those birds.
Yes fleas can and do get to birds. Here is how you can rid your house while birds are still in it.
Go to the store, get some iodized salt. Pick up all pet water. Lay down salt in heavy layers on the floor. Whether you have carpet or hard wood floors. Let it down for 5 days. The salt dehydrates the fleas and the eggs. After 5 days vacumn it up. No harm is done to pets or plants or carpet or floors. Fleas are gone. You can bathe your dogs with flea products and no harm is done.
Good Luck!
Not fleas but mite can infest your birds Red mite is the most common

Can Dove's see in color (pink) especially?

Would a pink shirt scare off the Dove's at our annual Dove Shoot?
Answers:
yes doves can see in color, and they can actually see colors that our eyes can't, like ultraviolets and etc. if you're worried about it, wear a pink shirt around them at home so they get used to it.
Omg I %26lt;3 Pink! How could that scare Anyone??!

Can Dodos kill people?

Answers:
Dodos were related to pigeons and doves, which are very docile birds, so even if they werent extinct, it is highly unlikely they would kill a person. There are birds, however, called cassowaries that look similar to an emu and live in New Guinea that have been known to kick people to death with their strong clawed feet. Also some large eagles such as the Harpy have been known in rare circumstances to maim and kill humans.
Only if they get high on meth!
They COULD
um.dodo's are extinct
i am assuming you mean Dodo birds.. nope.. they are extinct ! humans killed them off.
NO. because people killed all the Dodos.
Considering the fact that they are extinct, I would say no.
the dodo bird was too stupid of a bird to survive. Hence the name dodo and even if they were alive I think they would be too stupid to be able to figure out how to kill a person or even desire to try. Im assuming your question is referring to the dodo bird.
Lol not now. All gone man.
not to worry cuz they are extinct
we killed them before they killed us
=/
why do you want to know?
Only if a stuffed one or a preserved skeleton of one were to fall on a person.
They are extinct ,you know.
Dodos are extinct, so it is unlikely one would kill a person... unless you're referring to stupid people as dodos, in which case yes, dodos often kill other innocent people.

Can diseases be contained in domesticated birds (parakeets)?

someone told me that some bad diseases can be inside of birds..she didn't say specifically..like if they were from domesticated birds, but they said it could irritate your skin, making it hurt, and your skin could be slowly rotting. i want to know if its true. my parents want to return my parakeets because of that reason, but i've been with them for practically 7 years. i don't want to let them go. i don't think its inside of domesticated pets, and in wild birds...but just in case i needed to know. i need to persuade them that my birds are fine.
Answers:
I have never heard of anything like that, and I have known people who ahve owned birds for 40 YEARS and never had anything like that. It could possibly be in wild birds..but domesticated birds I don't think so. If you are really really really concerned call an avian vet and ask if there is anthing that can do that and if it is common in domesticated birds like budgies, etc. It's jsut a call, and I am sure he'll tell you you have nothing to worry about. But if your parents need proff just call an avian vet.
Don't believe everything you hear.
No, this is not true. Other wise so many of us would NOT keep birds in our homes and lives.
I've heard that you can catch a disease if you dont clean the cage once a week. I had parakeets for about 4 years %26 then they died :/ i wish i treated them better, taking care of them %26 all, so just keep em' sanitary :]

Can cockatiels eat honey??

i gave my tiel honey about a year ago and he realy liked it but i have never given him honey since then. and when i gave him some it was very very little.
Answers:
In general , sugar is not considered to be good in a birds diet.
In general sugar is not considered to be good in a human's diet either..
Is it going to kill either one of you?? Unlikely.
Can it make both of you sick if you eat too much of it?? Of course!!
The key here is moderation. I am sure your cockatiel loves honey ! They love sweet things , just as humans do. But considering a cockatiel's extremely low weight and body mass, I would be sure to make it a very rare occasion when I allowed my cockatiel a single drop of honey on some bread or a cracker..
Much better for him would be fruit. If he won't eat it fresh, then try dried fruit! My cockatiels love raisins, dates, dried apricots and dried cranberries( as long as I chop them up into small bites ) !!
But I must admit that for a rare and special treat I sometimes give them a little non dairy Cool Whip !
Let em live a little !! :-)
Yes, honey's fine for cockatiels
yes it is bc companies make food with honey in it the lady that i got mine from said that was a treat for them
in general honey is not bad but it can contain fungus and spores that could be harmful to a bird so I would be careful as to how much and how often it is offered.
I wouldn't give it to him straight I would mix it up with some of his seeds and make like a small treat for him/her.
You shouldn't but a tad won't hurt once in a blue moon.
Honey used to be used for egg laying hens when they had eggs or chicks as a boost of energy. These days it is preferable to use sugar as honey can contain botulism which can be dangerous to the mom and unborn chicks. They now sell raw sugar which is better than refined sugar.
But as I said a tad won't hurt but you really shouldn't as tiel aren't %26 shouldn't be encouraged to eat sweet things.

Can cockatiels be kept in an apartment?

i want to get a male cockatiel and i was wondering if they can be kept in an apartment with 2 budgies
Answers:
Preferably in a cage separate from the budgies. They adjust to wherever they live.
of course they can be kept in an apartment with budgies but in a separate cage.
You can but without having a macaw because Macaws are dander sensitive birds.
Yup, they sure can. They make good apartment birds cause they aren't too loud. Make sure to quarantine the tiel for at least 30 days before introducing them to prevent either from being exposed to diseases. Just watch them closely as you put them together gradually over time to catch birds that don't get along before they get too out of hand. But sometimes birds don't get along and at that point you have to just make sure they stay seperated so that neither bird get hurt.
of course. If you're planning to put them with the budgies. make sure you put them in a separate cage first and really close so they can observe each other. good luck,
yup...
cockatiels tend to be louder than budgies, and a little messier, but they can

Can chickins fly?

Answers:
very short distances and up onto low tree branches..they are not very good flyers and do not fly like ducks and geese.
yes, i saw a neighbor of mines do it, but not very high
Haven't you ever played Zelda? They don't fly, they gliiiiiiide.
For a short duration, yes.
Chickens generally prefer to run but are capable of flight for pretty good distances if properly motivated. Competitions are held regularly, the record is I think something around 300 yards.
Yeah but usually less than distances of 6 ft (horizontally or vertically) Some can probably do more but they don't really seem to want to fly more than that most of the time.
no dummass chickens cant fly.. havent you seen CHICKEN LITTLE
yah just throw them from the building
Depending on the breed and how much a chicken weighs, kind of sort of yes. Game hens, which are very light and are the athletes of the chicken world, can fly a much longer distance than say, a silky which doesn't have the traditional feathers. Their feathers are more like fur because of how they were bred. Roosters are also better 'flyers' than hens because they tend to have more muscle mass. I have a New Hamshire red hen and two australorps and they weight about 5 pounds. They can all 'fly' about ten or fifteen feet. It's really cute because they'll run at full sprint and then just start flapping their wings like crazy. :-)

Can chickens swim??

Answers:
Yes, but not very well. They do float for a little while but once they become saturated they lose their ability.
YES, kinda
I put my chickens in the spa in the summer to cool them down sometimes. After holding them on the top step and pooring water on them, they often sit and float before fluttering off back to the dry land
In my boiling vat of chicken bouillon containing chopped onions and celery potatoes and carrots, yes they can.!
no not really well but maybe in your dreams
I'm sure maybe out there some where there is a chicken that can swim, but no chickens can not swim. I have chickens and duck and geese, and i have to make sure that my chickens don't get into the duck pool because they will drown. I've lost 3 chickens that way they get in there and they can't get out.
No. Do not try to put a chicken in water. Birds in general have very sensitive respiratory systems, and a non-aqautic bird is very prone to respiratory infections that can be fatal
yes,if tat chicken wear sandle and sport-shoe...hhhhh

Can chickens fly?

Answers:
omfg r u really asking this
Like a few feet, not far.
Some breeds can fly a little, others cant. But they cant fly like wild birds I dont think.
Yes, but not well. It's more like not-so-graceful falling. I have two Quail D'Anver hens and if you hold them above your head, one will fly about ten feet away and the other will fly up to about thirty.
Only from a roost when they want to sink those damned spurs into me.
Some called, "game chickens" can fly up to 100 yards. But the common chicken (yard bird) can only fly a few feet.
the longest flight of a hen was of 12 or 13 seconds...
Domestic chickens -- depends on the breed.
The larger the breast, the heavier the bird, the less likely it is to be able to fly. Generally, they can only pretend to fly a few feet.
It also has to do with the blood flow to the pectorals. The whiter the flesh the less blood flow, and, again, the less likely it is to fly.
Same with domestic turkeys.
Their wild counterparts fly just fine -- a few hundred feet or up into trees -- but a good-go at that.
No.
It really depends on what breed of chicken you have and how much they weigh. My hens are about 5 pounds and they can get off the ground for like ten feet.

Can chickens eat bird seed?

Instead of buying expensive feed, can my chickens eat store bought bird seed?
Answers:
No, not to replace their feed. It doesn't contain the nutrients that a laying hen or growing chick needs. However, you can sprinkle a handful of bird seed in your backyard for your hens to have something to peck at.
well chickens are birds so i dont see why not. but they probbly wont be as healthy as other chickens who eat the expensive feed.
Apparently they need more nutrition than that, but you can mix chicken scratch with seed.
No! Chickens do not have the beak to remove the shell from the seed. You can buy scratch and egg maker at Wal-Mart and it is cheap. Feed them what they need. Also we feed leftovers and scraps. Things like bread, noodles, cereal, etc.

Can cardinals safely eat dog food?

Last year I occasionally saw a cardinal or two sneak up on the porch and steal dog food... This year I have seen 3 or 4 beautiful males and a female or two taking turns cleaning out the dog food bowl. Is it safe for them to eat dog food? I put out a bowl of bird food on the rail, but they ignore it. I don't mind them eating, I enjoy their company, but I am concerned that it may not be healthy for them.
Answers:
All kinds of animals like dog food. I know crows used to eat dog food every day from our family dog's tray.
all kinds of critters like dog food, squirrels, racoons, monkeys, and birds of all sizes....if you want them to hang around... get soem bird stuff also...research their favorites and hook em up :-)
Yes,it's fine. One of the foods used to raise orphaned songbirds is dog food. It's got protein, fat and carbs,so it's good for the birds.Let them eat it and enjoy their beauty!
Take away the dog food and put bird feed in the same bowl instead. By this time they're probably just used to seeing the dog bowl.
Your dog will have to eat it's food from a different bow in a different area where the birds don't see it.
Don't really know if the dog food is doing any harm, but why take chances that they aren't getting the right nutrition.
Birds are birds and dogs are dogs. If you had crows or ravens paying you a visit they would eat the dog food, but then they are scavengers/opportunists and eat anything they can find.
You're really lucky to have cardinals come to visit. It's been a long time since I've seen a cardinal now that we live in the north woods. They are slowly migrating further north. I'm hoping to see cardinals again someday.
Feed them mixed feed, although most birds prefer sun flower seeds and don't forget a bird bath with a small amount of water so they can take a bath. Birds prefer shallow water rather than deeper water. It's easyer for them to take a bath.
Put up and couple of bird feeders and they will come. All kinds of different birds.
Enjoy those beautiful cardinals. It doesn't get much better.
The dog food in moderate quantities is not bad for them. However I would not encourage them to eat it all the time. Plus I'm sure your dog does not appreciate it.
Try putting up a bird feeder with natural sunflower seeds.

Can Budgies learn songs?

Im thinking of getting a pet Budgie and i know that they sometimes can learn to talk but if i play songs for them alot could they learn them too?
Answers:
I think the male is more likley too than the female, but the website below offers a ton of information for you.
http://www.birdhobbyist.com/articles/bir...
From the site above:
To learn more about your budgie, or to talk with other budgie owners, please visit us on the Parakeets (Budgies) message board and at Budgie/Small Bird Chat Monday nights from 9-10 PM Eastern, or 'Tiel/Small Bird Chat Saturday nights from 10-11 PM Eastern in The Aviary. We always like to hear from people interested in owning a budgie or those who already do.
Hope this helps
no they learn nothing from human you need to get a larger bird in a shelter if u cant afford it ...
YES they can mimic noises like speech

Can budgies have a bit of yogurt?

If i put it on a spoon and give it to them is that okay or they cant eat it? I heard they cant have dairy or any of those kind of products.
Answers:
A bit of plain or vanilla yogurt will be good for your bird. I'd suggest just enough to go about 1/4" up the tip of a spoon so it doesn't over-feed on the yogurt. Don't give your budgies yogurt with fruit as the fruit will in all likelihood be in pieces too big for the birds to handle.
I have given my budgies milk, chicken soup, scrambled eggs with milk, rice krispies, fruit loops etc for the past two years and they are healthy. I have never heard of any problem with dairy products-just with avocado, chocolate, alcohol and too much fat or sugar. So I would think it's okay to give your budgies a taste of your yogurt-my mom raised budgies for decades and gave them people food sometimes too :-) btw they may be scared of the spoon-mine like when their stuff is put into a plastic ice cube tray-I'm not sure why.
Yes, its fine to give them yogurt, but it must be un-sweetened
They should be able to tolerate some dairy if they like it. My birds love cheese , especially with pasta.
Just don't go overboard with it.
yes
A little bit of dairy is actually good for them. But just a little! Too much will cause problems
If you heard they cannot have dairy or anything like it WHY are you taking a chance to kill them??

Can budgies eat rasberries and blueberries?

My budgies dont like wet fruit and veggies. I dont know what to do anymore. maybe some vitamins in their water or something? What kind do you use if you use any? Also, can they eat rasberries and blueberries? I want them to be healthy but they just dont like it wet. Anu sudggestions?
Answers:
Yes they can. And the vitamins would be a great idea-ask a pet store that keeps birds and they should have a powdery substance for your birds.
if they refuse frsh veggies, give them a pelleted diet...or eat something to their face to show them how much you love it and how non poisonous and yummy it is.always works with my budgie who now is addicted to banana's, apples, and whipped cream :D
Sure. they would be great fro your budgie! Lots of vitamins!
Rasberries and blueberries are great. If they don't like the fresh stuff at least have them on a pellet diet that will at least give them most of what they need.
Yes go but a shiskabob, and start to skewer fruit and veggies and then hang it where they perch. I've skewered broccoli, apple and all kinds of things. Place it where they normally perch and let it there. Sure it browns and wilts, but don't remove it. Eventually the bird starts to peck at it to get rid of it because they don't want it where they want to sit. They get a taste of the food and it starts from there.
After awhile you can start putting it in a dish. Start with raw veggies and then move to frozen after that. I also reccommend Roudybush pellets. They are a softer pellet and don't shoot across the room when birds eat them. They are also made with crushed pellets. Never had a problem weaning any bird over to them. I've also never give the bird a choice of seed over pellets. Pellets it is, plus veggies and pasta with beans and fruit. The more variety of foods you feed the healthier they are.
Good Luck!
I dont use vitamin water sorry. My bird eats a pellet diet with alot of good stuff so they need no grit. Its called KayTee Exact origonal. They can eat those fruits if they are cleaned very well.

Please feel free to email me with any questions,
Cockatiel Expert
Yes they can eat them and its good for them too! But often birds need an introduction to foods they aren't familiar with. If you can handle your birds, I suggest putting a dab of the food right under the beak. Birdie will get a taste of it while trying to remove it and can then decide if he likes it. Sometimes it just takes some time. I don't recommend leaving soured fruit in the cage, it isn't good for them. And like people, birds have tastes too. Some will like the same thing that others don't. Just keep trying to offer it to them.
Cheers!

Can birds regergitate?

Answers:
yes, mother birds do this to feed their young and if a bird likes you they will spit up on you,its a sign of affection.its a strange practice but then its life!
yes - that's how they feed their young
Yes..this is how they feed their young when they are first hatched. The chicks cannot eat solid food right away, so the parents regurgitate for them.
Yes. In fact, thats how they feed their young. The mother (or father) will go and catch prey, swallow it, let it get churned up in its gizzard, return to the nest and regergitate the "pre-chewed" food into the mouths of the hatchlings.
Yep, I do, thanks, lmao
sometimes birds regergitate its normal
By definition, regurgitation is the forceful expulsion of the contents of the mouth, esophagus, or crop (Nash, DVM). It is normal behavior, and is different from vomiting, which is more of a spitting action involving the expulsion of the contents of the proventriculus, ventriculus, or intestine. With regurgitation, the bird bobs its head and stretches its neck, while in vomiting, the bird shakes its head from side to side. Birds regurgitate their food to feed their young. Sometimes, they even regurgitate food to feed their mate. If the bird has bonded with you, there's a chance that it will regurgitate its food as a token of affection. Vomiting is a different issue altogether, and could be caused by a number of infections, diseases, nutritional imbalance, or exposure to toxic elements. It can also be a reaction to certain medication given.
Find out if your bird is regurgitating or vomiting. If it's the latter, take it to the avian vet as soon as possible.
Yes, on quite a few levels. They can be sick if they are poorly, some birds regurgitate to feed young but not all. and all raptors (and some other species) reguritate pellets or castings, these are the leftovers from food they have eaten, eg, bones, feathers and fur, that the bird cannot digest.

Can Birds Get Frustrated If You Don't Let Them Nest?

If a bonded pair live in a large aviary but have no nest box provided for them, yet they are seeking somewhere to nest, is it possible that they could get frustrated/depressed/etc?
Answers:
Yes, they can get frustrated. If the female is very broody she will lay without a box though. Now the male on the other hand, if he wants to nest but the female refuses because of improper nesting area the male can become aggressive towards her.
Good question! And the answer would probably be yes if she wanted to nest she would get nasty because she couldn't find one but if she REALLY wants a nest she will start laying eggs in the bottom of the cage! I would get a nesting box, you don't have to do any work (well not much)!

Can Birds Eat Ice Cream?

I have a Grey Cheek Parakeet and Ive heard that they like ice cream. Im scared to give it ice cream becuase I think i might kill it. I just wanna know can birds enjoy that special cold treat?
Answers:
I agree with what seems to be the overwhelming thought here in the fact that it isn't a good idea. Birds don't have the ability to properly process dairy, and while a little dairy, such as milk, can be alright, you have to consider ice cream has other things in it. It usually has sugar, that isn't good for them, and depending on the flavor, some can be potentially toxic. So I would avoid it. There are some human foods that are alright, but I would stay clear of most treat foods that we eat. Especially with a parakeet, since their systems would only require a very small toxin to kill them due to their size.
yes it is fine for them to have ice cream but not ONLY ice cream a treat is fine
Ya they can have ice cream...i just wouldn't give them chocolate since thats what can kill dogs...
They can, but their digestive system isn't designed to deal with dairy so it can be dangerous.
This is the same for all animals, I work a rock festival at an animal sanctuary that had an Alpaca die, at a different function on site not the rock festival, because someone fed it a burger - they can't digest meat
no itll freeze them
You would be better off sticking with treats like fruits and veggies. Why risk it?
Yes they can occasionally have a little ice cream. Just don't go overboard because the dairy can be a little rough on them, and sugar needs to be restricted.
My birds actually don't like ice cream because it is too cold, but they love a little cool-whip non dairy topping!!
CAN they eat ice cream? Yes. SHOULD THEY eat ice cream? No. It is not good for their digestive system; then consider that they have completely different nutritional needs than humans, it could be dangerous.
It's not something they would eat in the wild, so I wouldn't risk it. They don't have access to dairy products in the wild, either! :-) It might be hard on their stomachs.
I have an african grey, and he loves ice cream. I give him just a little bit - like half a teaspoon, and if he doesn't get some when we have it, he gives a most pitiful moan.
my Senegal parrot likes ice cream !! it's okay to give the bird a little ice cream.
Ice cream contains milk, which is lactose which parrots cannot digest so idearly nope, it would be like feeding your parrot chocolate only chocolate would kill quicker than feeding ice cream,
However im sure health shops do sell lactose free ice cream which would be perfect for a parrot or you could try making your own with lactose free milk.
Or make your own with following ingredients :
Supreme Ice Cream
1 cup strawberry puree
1 pouch Gelatine
1/4 cup water
Pour 1 pouch gelatine over puree. Add 1/4 cup boiling water and stir constantly until completely dissolved. Pour into ice cube container and put in the fridge until set. Serve..
This link gives a few ideas of what you could make as a safe desert for your birdy,

no, it has a lot of suger and it might get sick!
