Can my parakeets learn to talk? if so, how do you teach them to?

Answers:
Yes, but its best done with a single male bird. Two or more birds will generally talk to each other,ie "chatter".When you are ready to train your bird, speak clearly and slowly, repeating words. Slowness is important, as parakeets tend to speed up words when they repeat them. Speaking slowly will help make the words sound normal when you hear them. Be patient though, because training can take some time, even if you do it regularly and well. Try to speak with them early in the day while they are alert and their mind is fresh. While it is important to speak regularly, it is more important to speak for more than a few minutes; around half an hour a day if possible. The words you use can affect how quickly they will repeat them. Parakeets are best with words with hard syllables, such as k, w or t. Words that begin with p or b are also good to use in teaching the parakeet. A traditional phrase such as Hello isn't very good to train your parakeet with, since it is hard for them to say. Only when he repeats the first phrase should you move on to a second one.
Its best if you speak to your bird rather than use a recorder
as this can lead to the parakeet only speaking when you're not there. Some parakeets can learn words after two months. Others can take up to six months. After a bird learns a few words, it will take much less time to teach them each word.Time and patience is the key...
parakeets can never learn to talk...but they are the most athletic birds.
Yes, they can learn to talk. When I was little my Dad recorded himself saying a certain phrase and played the tape over and over to the bird until he learned to say it. You should start small with something like "hello". Just keep repeating the phrase over and over.
That's not true. I had a parakeet named Cody that talked. He only said, "Pretty bird" though. From what I've heard parakeets are definitely capable of talking but their voice is not going to be as clear as a larger parrot like an African grey or one of the Poicephalus parrots. They also will probably not learn as many words. Cody never made it past whistling and saying, "pretty bird".
I read in a book about parakeets (because I own one) that they can be taught how to talk... but I'm afraid I don't remember how you can teach them.
I suggest looking for a book about parakeets at a pet store or a library (or book store) and looking it up. (Or you can just look it up on the internet). That should answer your question.
I've always been wondering the same thing. But of course, it's not gonna be as easy as teaching a dog how to sit, you know?
Anyway, I hope I helped. ^_^
All bird are capable of learning to repeat certain words. Seriously though, keep it simple. Nothing like, "Sally picked seashells down at the seashore" okay? start with (as said) things like hello. I think it's even cuter, though, to teach them "bye" because when someone walks in the door, you'll say "hi!" and they'll say "bye!".. And then, once they learn words like that, move on to things like "how are you?" and "nice weather" and things.. You can also teach them to whistle.
As for how to teach them, simple!
The three-step-method,
1. Get a tape recorder
2. Record yourself saying the chosen phrase or word
3. Play the tape all day, when your at work, or when you're home
And the FOURTH step. (which I didn't mention)
Enjoy your loving, talking bird:)
short answer?
yes they can learn to talk.
You teach them by being VERY patient, VERY repetitive %26 persistent, and with time. How much time? Depends on how much you work with the birds.
Hope that helped! :)
when I was a kid we had a parakeet named "Big Bird" he learned to say "Hello" and "Big Bird" after months of saying "Hello,Big Bird" to him. He had a really high, squeaky voice. It was really cute. =)
yes, they can but they can only say a few words...u teach them by repeating the word over and over and over again clearly until they learn it.
parakeets are one of the best talkers!! A parakeet actually holds the record of having the most vocabrulary of any parrots according to the genius world record book beating an african grey!! who are prolific talkers! just keep saying the phrase. repetition is the key or use a recorder and play it all day. good luck!
yup they can. To teach... take about 15 minutes each day to work with him.. now say the word or phrase slowly to teach it to them...good luck
Parakeets can't talk they can only make noises. Parrots can talk. I have never heard of a parakeet talking.
