Chickens pecking each other?

there about 3 weeks old and didnt start pecking till today there was a heat advisery it got to like 106 degrees and i wondered where the pecking because it got hot i have brown leghorns mixed with wyandottes and they are picking on my polish and pulling there tail feathers out what can i do
Answers:
Yes, they are probably pecking because of the heat. Chickens are very sensitive to hot weather. Do they have shade/ air conditioning and plenty of cold water? Chickens tend to pick at each other when they get stressed, and it sounds like the heat is a likely cause of stress. Do whatever you can to keep them cool, and make sure they have plenty of space. Chickens also peck at each other if they are overcrowded. You should probably seperate the polish from the other chickens if you dont want them to get pecked into pieces. From my experience polish chickens are always victims of pecking. Mine are always gettting bullied.
i'd call a vet's office
When chickens peck at each other it signifies overcrowded conditions. Some people have good luck hanging green plants where the chickens can reach them. It seems to distract their attention somehow.
its the pecking order ... just like dogs being be the alpha dog... just separate the one from the others ... otherwise they will keep doing it.
Yes, the heat most likely did cause the chicks to peck at each other more than normal. Are your chicks in a brooder or are they outside. If they are in a brooder they should be keep at 80-75 degrees now. If they are outside they should have a place to escape from the heat like under trees or in a chicken coop.
If your chicks are in the brooder you can do a few things to stop your chicks from pecking at one another. You can put grass or straw into the cage. I have never hung it above the chicks but rather just set it on the bottom of the cage. This will then distract the chicks from pecking at the other chicks. You should also be using a red light bulb in your brooder. If your birds are outside make sure that there is enough space for the other birds to escape from the bullies.
Make sure that there is enough space not just in the cage but also in the feeding and water area. If these are crowded there will be more pecking then necessary.
If worse comes to worse separate the chicks into two groups. Group one the meaner ones and Group two the nicer ones.
Remember that chick鈥檚 loss their feathery down at 3-4 weeks of age so if your chicks are losing a lot of feathers make sure that they are getting pulled out instead of falling out. Some fighting between chicks is normal.
Good luck
Overcrowded, too hot, pulling feathers is a desperate attempt to cool off, do they have grit, food, water.
Well, it could just be that they're establishing their pecking order. How many chickens do you have? The pen that you're keeping them in may be too small if there are too many. When it gets anywhere near 100 degrees, try to keep them cool some how. What I do with my hens is just dip them in a bucket of water. I just put a little bit of dish soap in the bucket and I just bathe them at the same time!
