Chicken mites! :@?

My chickens have mites all over, and the mites seem to be making this weird white hard clumps on the feathers by their vent. I cannot get the white stuff off without pulling their feathers out completly. Also how do i get the mites out for good!? I dust the coop and chickens, but they keep coming back! Please help me!

Mites and what to do?
Dusting is a great thing to do but it isn鈥檛 enough. Especially if you are just dusting without poultry mite dust powder. There are many different kinds of powder so I suggest going to the local grain shop and see what you think will be best for your situation.
When cleaning the coop wash it with Permethrin. http://www.growinglifestyle.com/us/prod/... - click on this and it will describe to you what permethrin does.
Then dust your birds with mite dust powder. Dusting the hens will be best if you hold the hen upside down. Try not to frighten her too much this will work better. Remember to dust her outside. This is so there isn鈥檛 dust powder in the air of the chicken coop. This is to prevent the hen from having to breath the dust.
If your birds have leg mites use some Bag Balm and smear it on or even butter. This will suffocate the mites. If it becomes necessary you may wish to smear some onto your chickens vent or other places where she is full of mites.
Then after dusting her go to the chicken coop and sprinkle some of the powder onto the floor. Then cover the floor of the coop with sawdust or straw.
Mites are stressful to birds so make sure that they are eating well and have a good diet. You can also give them one Tablespoon of sugar per gallon of water to give them a boost.
Good luck
I would do a thorough cleaning of the coop. If that doesn't help, you might just have to keep dusting. My hens have never had a problem with mites, but I always kept a small flock. Reducing the number of birds you have might help the situation.
I wish you the best of luck.
We dust for lice 2 times a year. We totally clean the chicken house out including spraying down the walls and floor with a bleach and water solution and letting it air dry for a couple of hours. We then put shavings and the eggs boxes and feeding tray back in, all cleaned and disinfected as well. (not the shavings)We then dust each chicken under it's wings and the vent area before we put them back in for the night. We also spread dust on the walls and floor and the roosting pole. We have found that sevin dust is the best. So I guess my answer is to totally, thoroughly clean and dust everything they come in contact with as well as the chickens themselves.
Are they feather lice or mites? It sounds like it would probably be a good idea to thoroughly clean out the coop...scrape old litter off the floor, and scrub everything down with bleach or a powerful cleaning solution and treat it with an insecticide such as permethrin. Do your chickens have a place where they can take a dust bath outside every day? The dust is very good for them, it suffocates parasites. You can put diotomaceous earth (available at garden supply stores) mixed in the the dust to make it more effective. Chickens can also be dusted with Diotomaceous earth, its natural and very safe. What are you dusting them with and how often? Lice/mites are very frustrating to get rid of, good luck!
do your chickens have a dust bath? they need that to get rid of thing like that. dirt in a box without a bottom or a top works great.
