Well I have 2 parakeets, Kairi, (the girl, who fell down the chimney for those of you who read) and Bloo, ( the boy)... well when i first bought my birds they were afraid, and i completely understand that... after a day or two, Kairi felt comfortable with my hand... If i reached over to pet her she wouldn't jump up and fly.. Bloo on the other hand was always jumpy... but now i feel like Kairi is actling a little more like Bloo now.. when she sees my hand, she tries to move away just like how Bloo does... and when they fly around the house, they fly around like crazy.. they werent like that before.. I mean they do sit quietly at times but one of them always has to start chirping and they both go flying in circles and pick different spots to sit in... this was all before Kairi fell in the chimney also... Do you think this is normal for her or both of them to act that way?
Answers:
I Think this is simple,
Kairi is mimiking Bloo, thats what happens when you keep two of the same, They copy eachother, and in this case Kairi thinks what Bloo does is great so there fore she'll join in,
The "chirping" your hearing from either Kairi or Bloo before they fly like crazy is a warning call, they are programmed to do it so in the wild so they can warn the rest of the flock that a predator is approaching, but in this case if they are doing it alot they are just looking for a reaction off eachother, one of mine does it all the time.
Also yes I do think what is happening is completly normal, it happens alot like I said when you keep two birds together in the same cage/room as they learn to copy/mimic off eachother, like we humans do with eachother,
There is no way to stop it, but also stand back and look, at the time was you trying harder to get Bloo to behave more like Kairi? Spending a bit more time trying to get him to calm a bit and not be so jumpy? Kairi could have seen this and thought he was getting more attention so she learnt to do same? some birds do that.
:o)
