I have found a very beautiful 10 week old hand reared baby for sale. The price is 拢1400, is this about right? I am no stranger to parrots as I have a Senegal and a Black Headed Caique, but I am not sure what additional preparations I would need to make in allowing this much larger bird in to my home? Any advice would be great please?

拢1400 is a bit steep for a blue fronted I'm sure you could get one cheaper. Hand reared is the way to go I got my yellow crowned at the bird show at Birmingham for 拢400, you can also find good breeders in the CAGE AND AVIARY newspaper or PARROT magazine. Blue fronted amazons are stunning I used to have one but he was a rescue and very aggressive, make sure you get a large open top cage and handle him/her as much as possible.
we paid over 拢500.00 about ten years ago for a hand reared one,and he was brilliant,apart from a couple of factors.
one he was extremely vocal,yes he talked a lot which was great,but i also mean he screamed ,and screamed a lot.
another thing was,as you probably know,they are more of a one person bird,and make there own preference to who they like,i bought him for the wife's b-day but he took a shine to me,and if he was out of his cage,and any one came he would attack them,seriously,and cause damage,he nearly broke the mother-in-laws nose once. and it bled like anything. so when our first born came along,crying and such he did not like that one bit,and we were forced to sell him,reluctantly but for the safety of our baby. they will destroy anything they come across,well ours did,and it wasn't for lack of attention,he was well cared for,and looked after,if i can give you a bit of personal experience from me,they are still great birds,but if i were you go for one that's less boisterous than blue fronted?
i have seen them in loot for between 拢300 and 拢700 it depend if you can get loot were you live you can go on line loot classified ads. they are lovely birds. but that price i think is a bit steep.
Babies usually aren't fully weaned until they are at least 3 months old. 10 wks is too young. the price sounds right but a baby should be fully weaned before going home.

like the previous person (riggs) i agree they are lovely but very boistros, we've got a 2 year old syd and i love him but he loves my partner, he's quite violent aswell i've been at the end of his wrath and it hurts!! i'm not sure that they are comunal birds, you could make him even more demanding, we got syd because he was not trust worthy around our mates new baby thats how come we got him,as for the price i think your being robed honey sorry, worth every penny but there not that expensive, we are looking fora mate for syd and would not pay no more than 拢500
