Cockatiels or conures?

Where can I purchase a cockatiel or conure preferably a sun conure in orange county? Anywhere close to mission viejo area would be best.
Answers:
You can usually find cockatiels at petsmart and sometimes they will have one conure.
I am from Long beach, not too sure about any parrot breeders or stores in the OC. But, if you want to get a sun conure, you have to make sure that it won't bug your neighbors and other members of your family. Conures are loud and will wake you up in the morning. Cockatiels are nice too but not as loud. You can try this website and see if you can find a breeder or store near you.

hope you find your bird. This was how I found mine.

Cockatiel?

My cokatiel seems happy and healthy while out of the cage with me but once I put him back in he puffs up. Does this mean he is sick or just upset? Please help me I'd relly appreciate it.
Answers:
Your bird is a cockatiel which is a member of the parrot family.
All members of the Parrot family puff up their feathers when they are happy and contented. Your bird is letting you know that you just made him very happy that you took him out of the cage and spent time with him !!
A cockatiel owner could not ask for a nicer compliment from his bird !
Congratulations!!
It doesn't mean anything my 'tiel is poofing up and down and all around when i put him in his cage he's fine. If he seems cold or scared he might get poofy to be warm or to look bigger.
Your Cockatiel may be sick but it could just be that he is comfortable in his cage and is settling down to sleep.
However it may be best to take it to the vet just in case!
he might be tired or cold so make sure there is not a direct blow of cold air going toward him. he might also be hot . he is not sick my tiels are always poofy. but good for you that u r so observant.
There is nothing wrong with your tiel, that what they do. My daughter has one, and she does the same thing.
I have a Cockateil and he loves to flying all around. When I put him back into his cage he gets a bit mad because he wants to be free. It doesnt mean that he's sick. And when he poofs up it just means that he wants to get warmer or trying to get cozzy and fall asleep. But its just that he gets a little mad when he's not being able to fly from out of the cage.
he is probbably puffed up from being cold or to rest. but look for signs of sickness such as discarges from eyes and or nose and if the droppings are of abnormal color or consistancy.
I think it just wants to stay out off the cage

Cockatiel, Quaker Parrot, or Conure?

which do you prefer as a pet
I already have a cockatiel and am planning on getting 1 more bird for now, i can't decide out of these 3 species, which do you think I should get
Answers:
Cockatiel are sweet tempered, gentle and socialable in nature and comes in several mutations,
Emerald %26/or Olive and more.
quakers are nice parrots and are not as loud as conures. it all depends on your likes and your surrounding. If you live in a condo or apt, best get a quaker because conure will prob. drive your neighbors nuts. They are very loud
cocatiel
Cockatiels are about the sweetest bird I've ever had, even all of my rescue tiels are sweet and tame, I've had over 20 of them and have yet to find one who wasn't great and easy to tame, they talk a little silly too, but will stop talking normally when others of the same kind are around.
Quakers are great too, but seem to be a little less wanting to play and cuddle with people but I've only had two of them. They can't play with other birds, both of mine are nice and tame but can push around my tiels even when the odds are 1 on 5. They talk really great though, and both still talk every morning and all day even though they live together. One of the best thing about them compared to the other birds I've had is for some reason they prefer to talk human more so then scream and tweet over and over if they want something. Plus unlike Tiels who mostly just mimic people, my quakers tell me exactly what they feel like eating, and you'll be damned if you give them banana when they've asked for apple. They do however have this weird little habbit that I've never seen with anyother kind of small parrots where they like to stick their butts outside of their cage and fling their droppings, I've heard from other people that their quakers do the same... so if you don't have a way to catch that it can be messy and a little gross.
I never personally had a Conure, however I've been told they are good but loud birds, that's the only solid facts I have on them however.
If you want yur tiel to have a friend to play with go with another tiel but keep in mind they might mate, and that is a horrible thing, for both the mother bird and the chicks if you don't know what you're doing.
If you want your tiel to have a friend that they can talk to but wont mate with and will maybe get him to talk more then the quaker is a lot of fun.
It depends on what kind of bird you are looking for. Like how much time can you spend with the new parrot, a conure will need more time than a quaker that needs at THE V ERY LEAST 3 hours of play time out side its cage with you. Please be more spicific of what you're looking for in a bird.
Thats funny! I have a quaker parrot and a cockatiel. Both, together, make great companion pets! They are wonderful together. They are best friends and love to follow and tease each other. I just got my quaker parrot and she is already laughing! If you want a sweet, cuddly, affectionate, good talking bird, thats small and easy to care for, get a quaker!! Mine even likes to take showers with me!! They are compared to african greys in their talking ability!! Good luck!!
Well I'd say cockatiel. You can keep them in the same cage if its large enough.
Conures tend to scream a lot and they have horrible piercing screams. Cockatiels calls are much nicer, easier to handle as you probably already know.
Get a handreared one whatever you choose.
Remember, feed him Harrisons organic birdfood, seeds just wont do.
Conures are lovely though, but cockatiels are the cheapest of the lot.
I dont have much experience with Quakers, but apparantly they are great pets too.
You could go to a bird rescue and see if they have any of the birds you're thinking about!
The decision is really up to you. No one can tell you what to get.

Good luck!
I have a Quaker and he is a GREAT pet! He does tend to scream if you don't give him enough attention, but he isn't as loud as a conure would be! He needs more attention that tiels would need though. They are very people oriented birds and do tend to bond with only 1 or 2 people and either bite of run away from anyone else.
The vocabulary on them is extensive too. :-)
Oh, and they LOVE water. Baths, being sprayed, being put under running faucets, etc. They're a lot of fun in that area. :-)
Good luck!
you should get another cockatiel but cockatiels carry diseases and can get other birds sick so be careful. I would prefer a conure if I were you but you are you and I am me.
All are great birds.
I would say a Quaker would give you and your birds a little variety. Quakers are very affectionate, and easy to train. And , although I dearly love our cockatiels, I must say that Quakers are more of a "people " bird . They love to be with people , to make comments about what you might be doing, to eat with you, to talk with you and just be with you for hours on end !
If you buy your Quaker an Avian Flight suit , you will be able to safely take him outside, shopping, on visits and to fun events. Our Quaker loves going to the local revolutionary War reenactment where he sees all the new things and bobs his head to the fife-and-drum corp music. He gets *Very* upset when we leave the event !! The flight suit also has a concealed disposable diaper which keeps him clean but prevents him from making messes in public!
It takes a little while to get them used to wearing the flight suit , but its not too difficult. he even helps me put it on him now.
Whichever bird you pick will be a good bird for you. But since you already have a cockatiel, I suggest a Quaker.
I have 3 quakers and a conure. Quakers and conures are both awesome species - it's really hard to choose between the two! As much as I love my conure, my quakers have a zest for life that is infectious!! They are extremely smart little birds that have the best personalities. All three are little cuddle bugs, that love to be held, petted and carried around by everyone in my family. Quakers and conures both can talk. Quakers seem to be a little more clearer than the conures that I've had in my life (nanday and sunday). Some of the conures have high-pitched voices, and that makes them a little less easy to understand (blue-crowned conures, like paulie, are the clearest) All of our birds talk to some extent - they all laugh. Quakers make great pets, you just have to be dedicated enough to spend the time with them that they need. If not, you may end up with a bird that you cannot handle. This goes for a lot of species though. They are easy to train, easy to handle, and once you have one- you will fall in love! Good luck with whatever you choose.
My favorite bird is my little CLOWN bird, my Sun Conure. He is so funny, so loving and so comical! He plays games with me. He throws buttons at me (loves buttons) and he'll run across the couch, laugh and run at me like he's going to kill me, then he bite bite bite bite bites my arm (playing...I can barely feel it) and laughs again.) He is the funniest bird I have ever had. When I lived in Fl I had a Quaker. They are sweet and good talkers. The Sun Conure is not much of a talker but makes up for it in his beautiful color!
Good luck with whichever you decide on.
conures so lovable!

Cockatiel suddenly giving me problems such as biting. what can I do?

I got my two cockatiels about a year and a half ago . . . a male and female. They are probably about 3 years old now. When I first got them they were really aggressive probably because they needed to get used to their new home. They would hiss at you if you got close and they would always try to bite you. Their bites would be horrible. They would bite deep into your skin and actually make you bleed. And if we ever tried bringing them out, they would fly all over the house like maniacs. So, after a couple months of trying to teach them discipline with no success, we clipped their wings. They immediately became gentle, and let us pet them, and stopped the biting.
Now, the same problem is happening again. When they are in their cage they try to bite you. But, as soon as we take them out of their cage, out they become their normal selves again. How can I get them to stop acting that way inside their cages? The female also laid eggs about two weeks ago. But, I don鈥檛 believe that鈥檚 their reason for their aggression inside their cages, because they鈥檝e had eggs before and they weren鈥檛 like that. They are real sweet birds inside or out the cage and I just want them to become that way again.
Also, what can I do about them poopin all over the place? They love being outside their cage but I have to restrict it because they like poopin everywhere now.
Answers:
It probably is because of the eggs. The first few times a bird lays eggs, she has no idea what to do with them. Now her "motherly" instincts are kicking in. As long as they're still tame outside the cage, just let them have their territory. Let them jump out of the cage door by themselves so that you're not invading their personal space, and once the eggs are either hatched or the female decides not to care for them, they'll go back to normal.
Also, you can potty train them. Every time they poop, say their name and "poop" or "go potty". Do this for a day or two, then every 10 minutes or so, take them to a garbage can and hold them over it and say the phrase. Don't say anything else and just stand there until the bird poops (it can be a while) and then praise it. Do that for a few days and the bird will associate the phrase with the action. It takes a week or so for them to build up the muscles to poop on command, but it will happen, and then you just have to take the bird over to the garbage ever 15-20 minutes (learn how long it is before your bird has to go again) and just have them poop. This will keep your house nice and clean.
Can't control poop unless you diaper them. Maybe they bite because they are bored. Provide lots of toys for them. Wooden toys and different diameter perches. Other toys like bells and mirrors are good too. If they don't bite when they are out, take them out more. They miss you. Give them a plethora of snacks and treats. I hope this helps. Talk to them and spend more time with them.
well cockatiels can be very territorial and have bad behavior when you touch their pirches trust me my friend had stiches on his hand because of touching a cocktiels pirch - i have bad spelling during the summer

COCKATIEL Questions!!..?

Our parents get very annoyed of this..lol but She hates being left alone but we spend like 2 1/2 hours each day with her or more. How can we fix this? And i know she misses us so dont say that but its right after we leave the room.

Yes we do spend a lot more then 2 1/2 hours with her each day..we are in our bedroom for most of the day..and when we leave the room we even take her with us on one of our shoulders..and just to let you know we just got her from a petstore about 3 weeks ago and she was hand fed and she is about 11 weeks old now. She still sometimes can be nippy but loves attention. She does have a lot of toys in her cage and about three mirrors but doesnt pay much attention to them..lol... but its just
Answers:
Welcome to the wonderful world of being owned by a bird!! :] She is new to the household, so she is just learning her boundaries and how far she can push you. Be persistant, and you need to ignore the chirping. You must not have any reaction when she chirps (exclaiming or yelling at her will only give her the attention she wants). When she realizes that her chirping will not get her extra attention, she will stop. also, you are now her flock memebers. She is trying to keep contact with you (contact calls) so you can try whistling back to her when she calls for you. In the wild, birds use contact calls with other flock memebers to make sure that they are safe and have not been eaten. That's what she's trying to do with you! You can also try encouraging her to play with her toys more by modeling how you should play with them. when you pass by her cage, just mess around with her toys. again, you're her flock now, so she will copy you when you play with her toys. :] Make sure she's on a good pelleted diet supplemented with plenty of greens and fruits. You should also take her to an avian certified vet (find one near you here: aav.org/vet-lookup ) just in case, and for a welcome home well-bird check up. Hope this helps and good luck!
if you have TV yet then try putting that on and it might stop bc it hears voices in the room
give them a mirrior so they can see themselfs and they think its a nother bird.
Your bird is expressing itself. Afterall, how would u feel? One thing you must not do, is give it the extra attention it wants. If you do give it the extra attention, it will thing that it is doing the right thing. Afterall, people can be trained too. Bare with it, in time she will stop. She is still young. Do u know for sure it is female? If you really want it to stop right now, the only thing I can suggest is that you do not put her in her cage when u leave. That means making sure she is safe and cannot hurt herself when u are gone, thinks like cords could get chewed, walls can be chewed, cracks in screens and windows can let her loose or hurt her, you really gotta think of it all. It also means entering and exiting your door carefully and making sure u know where she is before jumping around the room when you return. Leave the cage door open so she can eat and drink as she pleases and be prepared for poopoo cleanup in the strangest places. Good luck with your bird, whatever u do, keep up the good work of giving her love and attention.
The other answers here have been correct. She is trying to get you to stay with her all the time. If you give in and run to her when she cries it will just convince her that this is the right thing for her to do!
Have patience. It will subside once she figures out that it is not getting her anywhere.
For lots of advice and articles about training cockatiels, you should consider joining a yahoo group for bird owners. I can recommend a good on if you like. Just message me or E-mail me, and I will steer you to a great group.
Meantime, good luck ! :-)
be a lot more consistent if it starts to understand that it only gets attention for two hours a day and thoose hours arwe in the evening every day then it will get used to the schedule and only want attention at that time.
Maybe you should put your cockatiel in a room where she can constantly see people, if your parents let you. That way their is a higher possibility that somebody will be in the room and she won't chirping. Or, if your parents let you, let her fly about the house. Just make sure there are no open windows or doors and keep her off the ground at all costs.
wow, mine does this too, you can offer it an "im here call" by just yelling or whistling im here or something else, try getting another one,
tv tends not to work, you can also try covering them, or moving them were people tend to be other than your room

Cockatiel names?

im probaly getting a 'tiel ( most likely a male ) and i wanted some name suggestions and if u can some tips, thanks
Answers:
well theres a lot of names that i would suggest but if i were you id go to
cockatielcottage.net
and look under the pet names. theres some really good ones there
i have a male cockatiel and his name is cocoa
but its a very common name.
Julio
Pepi
Prince cinnamon boots
Prince Apple Socks
lol have fun
i have a cockatiel too, and his name is "kiwi"
I like Pepe or Lulu, or Geronimo
But I would like to give you a bit of advice if this is your first bird.
I have just learned the hard way...that birds don't look sick until they are really sick
So I suggest taking it to an avian vet before the check clears
and ask the vet for every pamphlet they have on birds (the avian vet association has published a ton of them)
Also get your self a book that could save your birds life an you a lot of trouble and a lot of money down the road(Birds for Dummies) ...
and no sand paper perches or smoking and they need sushine and love at least an hour of each everyday
Pluma(Feathers)
Pajaro(bird)
Alfredo( just some spanish sounding name)
Jose
Uccello(bird in Italian)
Passaro(bird in poreguese)
Xanxia and Xylxia. Avis or Avia. i find X and A nice letters for a name. my cockatiel will be named Axia.
I named my cockatiel Charlie, because I didn't know the sex when I got him (he is lightly pied), so it was a good unisex name. He did however turn out to be male.
Diego!
I named my male Jack. But there are plenty of names:
Peaches
Max
Mango
Kiwi
Ava (short for avacado)
Ian

Cockatiel name?

i made the name Axia for my cockatiel. i haven't decided on the meaning of it so make one up for it and i'd choose the one i find most suitable.

Try this site I think it will help you if you choose this answer tell me what name you chose.
http://www.birdbytes.com/names.html...
It is the female representation of the birds axis. If the cage opening is facing west, and the bird is facing between southwest and northwest at any given time, your friend is enjoying your company!
Why should any name need a meaning? Personally, names matter even less to others when you tell them about your pets, because you are the only one who interracts with the pet the most.
But since you seem to want a meaning, try fitting the name with a personality trait.
