Cheap PARROT?~answer please!?

I would LOVE to get a parrot larger than a cockatiel, that is less than $250. Is there a such thing as a big parrot that cheap
Well, if there is, i would like to know about it. I have my cockatiel now, and love her to death, but would really like to get a bigger bird (i already have a cage)
Since i'm 15 i dont have that much money, so my parents are making me pay for the bird and the toys, but they will handle the food and vet bills, so its not that we can't afford the bird, its just a lesson in good money spending on my part by my parents
So is there any bird that fits my needs. Doesn't matter the personality, i love them all, they just need to be cheap!
Answers:
If you are talking about a full sized large Parrot for $250, "There ain't no such critter!"
A Quaker parrot is only slightly larger than a cockatiel(I own both ) and they normally sell for $200-$300. A Full sized large Parrot will go for about $600 and up ( meaning up to several thousand dollars) depending upon the type of bird.
There are organizations which specialize in "Rescue Birds", meaning thet have gotten the birds from an abusing situation. Sometimes these organizations will sell them for less money. Thats about the only possibility. You can do a search on the internet for "Rescue birds" to find some of these organizations.
I do trust that you are knowledgeable about the special needs of large Parrots, because owning a Cockatiel is almost nothing like owning an African Grey or a Green Amazon. If you mess up with a cockatiel , you may get nipped, pehaps resulting in a little blood. IF you mess up with the larger birds you could lose a finger or even an eye !
You also don't mention who will pay for the cage. A Cockatiel cage will *Not* do for a large Parrot ! He will bite through those small bars like an electric saw!! In fact a good cage for a large parrot will often cost as much as the bird ! To see how much a Parrot cage will cost , you can visit DrsFosterSmith.com , where you will see many cages for over $1000.00 .
If you would like to speak with and ask question of very experienced and knowledgeable owners of large parrots, I will be happy to direct you to a Yahoo group devoted to these birds. Just Email me or message me , and I will point you in the right direction !
u want a cheap cheep cheep? check animal shelters and online
well there is they quaker parrot. unless in your state they are illegal. they are in that price range but are only a tad bit bigger than a cockatiel. I'm sorry but htats just about the only bird in your price range that can talk and do everthing a large macaw could do i'm sorry if thats not as big as you wanted but thats about it.
Try adopting- but the rescue might require you to do some homework first, because they don't want that bird being rehomed AGAIN. I think if you can prove that you take good care of your cockatiel, you should qualify.
Check Petfinder:

Type in "Bird" and your state and look around. Good Luck.
Edit: I totally agree with Valgerd. No bird is cheap. I was merely suggesting you consider a rescue rather than a purchase
Hi if you go to birdsnway they have a section on for sell or adoption.. But to be honest you aren't going to find a "bigger" parrot for cheap... You can always fill out an adoption form at a local rescue and that's is where you will find a parrot rather inexpensively... You don't have to pick one out right away either keep saving your money you never know what they will come across.. I would be careful and thorough to any ads you might find in the newspaper you never know if the bird is healthy and well loved.. Good luck
You need to understand that a large parrot can live to more than 80 years with the proper care. Are you willing to make that kind of a commitment? You need to be honest with yourself and discuss this with your parents for this truly is a lifetime commitment. Please take the time to read the sources listed below so you can see what happens to the birds and animals whose owners no longer want them.
Check your local newspapers, humane society, ASPCA (or your local equivilant), bird shows, and bulletin boards for parrots for sale. You might find a parrot that you can afford there.
Personally, I go along with the others. Settle for a Quaker Parrot. They take a lot of your time, they act like a 3-4 yo, they're very sociable, and if treated well and well-socialized they'll be your very best little feathered buddy.
Whichever parrot you decide to buy do you and your potential bird a favor. Research. Research. Research. Find out all you can before you make that purchase so you'll be a fully informed pet owner.
Ring Neck Parrots are about $150 and like to be taught tricks.
Many are on utube doing tricks, they talk also.
Do some searches with yahoo and google for birds, then search for breeder's of specie you might like. Watch local newspaper ad's too.
Look around on here -http://www.birdchannel.com/
Read about the different species too.
There is such a bird but you may want to be careful. Buying cheap birds may result in a sick or a very mean bird. Also, try getting your bird from the animal shelters. But these birds could have been neglected or abused and could reslut with you and the bird being very unhappy. But if you have the time I say go for it! I gotta warn you though, having two diffent birds of a different species can be hazardous. You end up attaching yourself to one because you can't have them out at the same time.
don't get a bird that is alot larger than your tiel--a larger bird may end up fighting with and hurting the tiel. a cheap bird may also be a sick bird and the illness would most likely pass on to your tiel.
Depending on where you live, you might be able to find a Quaker Parrot for less than $250. Some Conures are around that price as well. Get a copy of Bird Talk magazine and see if there are any breeders in your area. Many times you can get a bird for less through a breeder than you would through a retail store. One of the reasons the prices are so high is because a person needs to be able to provide a great deal for them, such as a proper cage, healthy foods, a supply of toys, vet visit regularly, and so on. Many times if you can afford the cost of the bird, you can't afford the ongoing costs of care for the bird. Now in your case, it sounds different, but you need to understand that the cost of a bird never ends. We spend hundreds every month for our birds, but we have more birds than the average home since we take in birds with special needs. Just watch the pet ads in the newspaper for you area, check with local vets to see if they know of any breeders in the area for small parrots such as Quakers or Conures, and check Bird Talk for ads. You will find one.
