I had a pair (male and female)..but the male died about 2 or more weeks ago..and the female started laying eggs last week.so I'm just wondering if the eggs are going to be infertile...or if there's a chance they actually mated...
Answers:
Yes to both of your questions. The female don't need a male to lay eggs, but the eggs still could be fertile. Either way you don't want to remove the eggs. Allow her to have the eggs for 18 days anyway. After the 18 days, from the last one laid, then remove them and throw them away, if they did not hatch, and remove the nest.
Removing the nest will keep her from laying anymore eggs and depleting her calcium levels.
Good Luck!
The male proably mated before he died and it takes a couple weeks for the eggs to come.
yes but they wont hatch if the bird didnt mate
have you ever thought that maybe they mated before the male died?

Can you train birds to drop propaganda leaflets over enemy territory?
Which are the best birds to train? I am thinking of using something big and ugly like a turkey vulture, for the psychological effect and carrying capacity.
Answers:
Use a Kentucky fried nuclear war wing
Well, boys, I reckon this is it - nuclear combat toe to toe with the Roosskies. Now look, boys, I ain't much of a hand at makin' speeches, but I got a pretty fair idea that something doggone important is goin' on back there. And I got a fair idea the kinda personal emotions that some of you fellas may be thinkin'. Heck, I reckon you wouldn't even be human bein's if you didn't have some pretty strong personal feelin's about nuclear combat. I want you to remember one thing, the folks back home is a-countin' on you and by golly, we ain't about to let 'em down. I tell you something else, if this thing turns out to be half as important as I figure it just might be, I'd say that you're all in line for some important promotions and personal citations when this thing's over with. That goes for ever' last one of you regardless of your race, color or your creed. Now let's get this thing on the hump - we got some flyin' to do.
i dont know about turkey vultures, but carrier pidgions used to send notes to people
now that I would love to see lol
Try this old antique airplane build in 1942 my grandpa flew .
Russian flew cigarboxes I believe.

Why don't you train litlle , slightly overweight, blue moles to tunnel underground, and put the leaflets in one of those St. Bernard ale flasks tied anround the neck.I know a mole who would gladly join the resistance.
Actually, I think Ghengus Khan actually did use turkey vultures.
He fitted them with swanky little bags (SLBs) that the carried around their necks. This SLBs were filled with tint scrolls of porpaganda that slowly leaked out of a hole in the bottom of said SLBs.
I tried to do that years ago to promote the men's use of thongs at the beach.. I failed miserably. Never trust a flamingo.
Oh! is that what them fings is little smelly parcels with secreted messages in them?

Can you train a hurt bird you find in the wild??
Answers:
If it is hurt, it needs medical attention that you are most likely not qualified to give. Please contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. You can find one here: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.
Please, under no circumstances, attempt to care for the bird yourself. There is so much more to rehabilitation than keeping the animal alive until you think it is ready to be released. You have to know not only what to feed the bird, but how (please do NOT attempt to give the bird any liquid by dropper - baby birds can aspirate and die), how much and how often. You also have to know how to assess the birds general health and condition.
A baby bird kept in captivity must be taught to recognize and find the type of food it will eat in the wild. If it is being hand-fed, it may not associate the bugs and berries and seeds in nature as being food. It must also have the opportunity to exercise its wings a lot, so it will be able to fly on or shortly after release. When I volunteered at the Avian Rehabilitation Center, we kept the rehabilitating fledglings in a large walk-in cage with lots of shelves and branches leading from one shelf to the other, and down to the ground. We would place different types of food in the cage for them, as they were being weaned from the hand-feeding formula. We offered seed, meal worms and chopped up fruit. No fledgling was released until it was eating on its own, had sufficient weight gain, had all of its flight feathers in good condition, had no sign of diarreah or nasal discharge, had clear eyes, and could fly at least a few feet in a straight line.
These are the reasons to get the bird to a licensed rehabilitator - they have the training and the resources necessary to do all this, in addition to having the permits to do it all legally.
All native migratory birds in the US are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and you must have the proper permits to have them, even for a short time, even for good reasons like saving them. Many other countries also have similar laws regarding their native species. Wild birds can not be kept as pets.
Feed him canolope and take him to the most local petshop for more info!
That's illegal.
Can you teach parakeets to talk?
Answers:
Yes, any bird with a hook beak can learn to talk (except for lovebirds--they don't talk). The smaller the beak (parakeets have the smallest) the harder it is to teach them, but it can be done. My friend had one that talked all the time and I had 2 that I almost taught. They learned to mumble, but never speak words. It takes TONS of time and patience. Also, if it is only one parakeet, he/she is more likely to talk. Your interaction with only one will be more important for it; whereas, if it had a parakeet partner, they are more prone to find friendship in each other and talk "parakeet talk."
Generally speaking no. They just don't have the equipment to talk. That being said I have heard some people teach sounds that sound like a word, but you have to listen really close.
Sorry.
yes you can.
Yes, you can teach a young male parakeet to talk, by young I mean less than 6 months, after that, their anatomy will not change. A female cannot learn to talk. A male can say a very limited number of things, like, maybe 10 words or one nursury song, and you may not even hear him when he does talk, it will sound like a soft mumbling buzz. You will have to try very hard to hear it.
No they can not talk, but you can teach them to mimick whistles. It takes a VERY long time and a lot of patience. Try taking him/her into a quiet place without distractions so you get more of his/her attention.
Well I have seen many videos on youtube of budgies speaking words. I think you are able to teach them to talk.
Yes!
yes you can teach them to talk, but it would be like "hello" or other stuff like that. but if your bird lives with other birds, or has seen its self in the mirror then it wont say a word. because if the bird lives with other birds then u cant trian them to do anything. if it sees itself in the mirror then the bird will think it has someone to talk to.
Hi Tessie: this is SarahBobby> I have a parakeet as well, and I have tried to teach him to talk. I read a book about Parakeets and it said you can teach them by repeating what you want them to say time and time again..I have tried and by my experience.....it doesn't work....SB
Yes. As someone that trains Parakeets in human speech, you certainly can. Ideally,a young male a couple of months old is best. Females do have the ability to talk, but do not have the vocabulary of a male, and do not speak as clear...
yep
male ones seem to be better talkers though
then again it all depends. if you keep more than one
they might never learn to talk
some are better talkers than others
but its definetly possible
no u cant its impossible to do..
Can you spritz 25day ld cockatiel chicks with water?
its nearing 100 degrees here and HOT!! i was thinking of given a quick couple spritzes to my cockatiel chicks... but i'm afraid they might be too young. they're fully feathered.. mostly real feathers with very little pin feathers left. Has anyone else done this?
Answers:
No. spritzing them wont be a problem, just dont get them so wet that they are soaked and too cold, because then they are open to other problems(their crops cant digest their food if the body temp is too low.) Also if they are panting, its ok to drop 1 cc of water on their tounges. Another option to beat the heat is to put a small fan near them, (not directly blowing) to help circulate fresh air.
That should be fine. I always give my baby birds a bath after they are fully feathered. Just be careful of wind drafts that could chill them.
Sure, as long as they are fully feathered they should be fine. In fact this would be a great time to start training them to enjoy a spraying ! Its a great way to keep them cooler in the summer, and all of my birds love it as long as I don't spray them right in the face. I can't blame them there, because I might like to be sprayed with a garden hose during a heat wave, but I wouldn't appreciate it right in the face either !!
HI,
Yes this is fine ASLONG as the water is luke warm water, and not cold, and that they aint kept somewhere shaded where theres no warmth, but like you say its 100degrees,
The only time i wouldnt sugest doing it is at night, or with younger chicks who dont have feathers,
I Myself was shocked to see a video on internet of someone soaking a amazon parrot who was only partially feathered in a sink under a running tap! o_0 Not the best thing to do i have to say!

Can you put food red food dye in homade humming bird nectar?
Answers:
You do not need to add the red coloring..the color of the feeder itself (most are red) will be enough to attract the bird. There is a lot of debate about the red food coloring as it is thought to build up in the hummingbirds kidney and other internal organs. Even the store bought stuff is considered bad for them. Just use plain sugar and water to be safe.
Depends on why you want to do this %26 since I don't know why you want to do this I say no you shouldn't
probably. food dye shouldnt harm the birds.
yes you can but you can also just buy a red hummingbird feeder then it wouldnt make a difference. They sell the ones that look like big strawberries.
I read somewhere that it irritates their stomachs.
There is not need to use red food coloring. I have been using 1 cup sugar to 4 cups water for years without any food coloring. Normally hummingbird feeders are red which is enough to attract hummingbirds.
some dye might hurt the birds I would ask a vet about that, but I think you should just keep the necter just the way it is
Can you keep a parrot when pregnant?
Answers:
No problem
Yes, but when cleaning the cage it is recommended that someone else clena the bird cage so that you aren't exposed to the feces. But other than that yup, you can own a parrot while pregnant.
