Can chickens fly?

Yes, but not well. It's more like not-so-graceful falling. I have two Quail D'Anver hens and if you hold them above your head, one will fly about ten feet away and the other will fly up to about thirty.

Domestic chickens -- depends on the breed.
The larger the breast, the heavier the bird, the less likely it is to be able to fly. Generally, they can only pretend to fly a few feet.
It also has to do with the blood flow to the pectorals. The whiter the flesh the less blood flow, and, again, the less likely it is to fly.
Same with domestic turkeys.
Their wild counterparts fly just fine -- a few hundred feet or up into trees -- but a good-go at that.

It really depends on what breed of chicken you have and how much they weigh. My hens are about 5 pounds and they can get off the ground for like ten feet.
